Gallery
Tellison Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Snap back a little minute there and I got my bag turned out the same routine again, its really not like that darling we were just kids and we were trying to start again. Taking the first steps. I heard that you needed this and I appreciate that, I appreciate that. Special dispensation is well and good but we're not in a war this isn't like that. Taking the first steps. And this view of your back is worth something more than that, there is a picture of this victory in every wartime gallery. And the back of your hand is a monument to that, it is a monument to that, it is a monument to that. Croatia calls me late at night and Israel beckons me, Jerusalem. My list of things to do before I met you come on let's learn how to live. Taking the first steps. Spent my day spurning out this shit from this ditch and I'm fed up with it. Could have wrote back helped to pick me up your lack of adventure's why we lost this war. Taking the first steps. And this view of your back is worth something more than that, there is a picture of this victory in every wartime gallery. And the back of your hand is a monument to that, it is a monument to that, it is a monument to that. You're in a gallery you're in a gallery

Overall Meaning

The song "Gallery" by Tellison is a reflective piece about the longing for something meaningful in life beyond the mundanity of routine. The opening lines "Snap back a little minute there and I got my bag turned out the same routine again" highlight the desire to break free from the monotony of everyday life, to push beyond the automatic motions that individuals can become trapped in. The song reflects on the importance of taking the first steps towards something new, to be daring to make a change regardless of fear.

The verses touch on themes of war and conflict, alluding to how individuals can become monuments to experiences of the past. The line "there is a picture of this victory in every wartime gallery" highlights how the moments that lead to victory often become immortalized and imprinted into history. The chorus echoes this sentiment, emphasizing that the back of the hand or the view of someone's back can hold something more significant than mere physical attributes; it can represent a symbol of the individual's past experiences.

The final lines "You're in a gallery, you're in a gallery" are a reminder that while our experiences, memories, and emotions may seem mundane and easily forgettable, they all contribute to the bigger picture of life. It is a call to action to take chances in life, to make choices that can lead to new experiences, and to create something significant that can be remembered.

@joelongsurname But they say, "Whatever doesn't kill you makes you stronger"
Except polio.
And it's not been all bad.
This is the story of how I make new friends like him. And him, and him.
Him not so much.
And definitely her.
But back to the present.
To put you in the picture, I have no friends, it's my first day and I'm in the headmaster's office for a welcome chat with the rest of the new kids, otherwise known as "the freaks".
Yep, everyone's going to think I'm one of them. And in a well-meaning but disastrous move, as a new kid I've got to wear a massive green badge.
At least I can discuss it with my Head of Sixth, Mr Gilbert.
He seemed like an intelligent man.

Tellison are just... awesome. Went to see them in Manchester a few months ago, 10x better than the act they were supporting.
