Upon Tomorrow
Tempest Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Tears roll down my window pane
Gathering thoughts of what's to follow
Wind of life blows ever colder
The sun is rising ever older
The sky does cry more will fall upon tomorrow

Looking back towards the answer
Shifting through a place to be
Looking for love for the plunder
Tying evil to a wonder
Knowing nothing of what you really mean to me

But tomorrow holds the answer
To all of my todays
Tomorrow is where I'd rather be
But tomorrow the devil's horseback will ride you
Crying across the sky
Tomorrow will I again go free

You brought mountains to our meeting
Talked around the lower slopes
Felling trees to make our clearing
Saying things for no-ones hearing
Built a log cabin full of lotta loves and hopes

Flickering hearth becomes the centre
Shifting shapes upon our skin
Each thousand glimpses of the other
Warns a flame to go no further
Kindles the shadow that tears us limb from limb

But tomorrow holds the answer
To all of my todays
Tomorrow is where I'd rather be
Upon tomorrow the devil's horseback will ride you

Crying across the sky
Upon tomorrow will I again go free

Overall Meaning

The song "Upon Tomorrow" by Tempest reflects upon the inevitability of change and the unknown future that it brings. The lyrics speak of tears rolling down a window pane, as the singer contemplates what is to come. The wind of life blows ever colder, and the sun is rising ever older, symbolizing the passing of time and the approach of a future that is uncertain.

The singer seems to be looking for answers and seeking love and meaning in their life. They are tied to both good and evil, unsure of what these things really mean to them. However, they hold onto hope that the future, specifically tomorrow, will hold the answers they seek. The lyrics also explore the idea of building something special, like a log cabin full of love and hopes, but warns that the shadows of life can tear it apart.

Overall, the song seems to convey a sense of uncertainty and apprehension towards the future, while also holding onto hope for something better. The lyrics use powerful imagery and metaphors to convey this message.

What a band and not bad bit of Guitar playing for a little lad from Bradford West Yorkshire along with Bill Nelson and another..... someone called John McLaughlin all from Gods own County. Tempest was a real force in Music ( when you think of the shite that was around in the seventies plus that Diffy with the dark glasses in that Band from Ireland! and the rest)I just can't believe only a few thousand people have nodded to this. A truly great band in what ever version I can't think of what
Hiseman used to think about having Ollie an Alan and the rest in the same band at least for a short time anyroad tha nos.

"when you think of the shite that was around in the seventies“ — actually i can not think of so much shite in the seventies, compared to let say how much shite there i nowadays.

and its not even Ollie Halshall its Allan Holdsworth - if u read the sleeve notes you would see that Ollie Halshall is not on this track or indeed  on this album, Allan Holdsworth is the guitarist on this album with Paul Williams playing  some acoustic.  Ollie Halshall joined the band for the 2nd album(Living In Fear), Jon Hiseman wanted 2 guitars but Allan Holdsworth left because he didnt want to play  as 2 guitars with Ollie Halshall. Although they did play together on BBC Radio One Set covering this album.
