The idea for the project began one day a couple of years ago when Alaina made fun of Patrick for playing tennis in college. A year later the two fled their hometown Denver to spend eight months sailing and exploring the North Atlantic coast. During their adventures they began writing music together documenting their experiences. The Longboat Pass Songfacts reports that the pair eventually recorded their songs. The resulting album, Cape Dory, is about their time on the seas, the majority of the tracks being about the difficulties they experienced during their trip.

2. Australian Indie band containing two brothers, two cousins and a mystery bass player. Tennis have left the halcyon days of art school behind in pursuit of the perfect musical storm. Tennis played their first gig at a strip club in Surry Hills circa ’06, simultaneously debuting in Sydney’s indie and adult entertainment scenes.
Pursuing the former rather than the latter, Tennis have since graced the stages of many more credible venues, supporting the likes of; Matt & Kim(USA), The Ruby Suns(NZ), Wolf and Cub, Children Collide, Lost Valentinos, Tame Impala and The Holidays. Tennis Lyrics

Salty marsh fed by the tidal stream
Look down the flush
Sleeping deep in the brush
The night brings the hush
I can hear the current
Hidden by the knees of the cypress trees
When you kiss me, you really kiss me
Tell me how can you resist me
Did we ever reveal?
This is all that we need
Did we ever reveal?
This is all that we need
The lyrics from Tennis's song Waterbirds paint a vivid picture of a peaceful yet isolated natural setting. The opening line "still dreaming of the thicketed field" sets the tone and suggests that the singer is longing to return to this place. The phrases "salty marsh fed by the tidal stream" and "hidden by the knees of the cypress trees" evoke images of a serene swamp or bayou. The sound of the current and insects chirping add to the overall sense of tranquility.
The second part of the lyrics turns to a more intimate moment between the singer and another person. The lines "when you kiss me, you really kiss me" and "tell me how can you resist me" suggest a deep connection between the two. The question "did we ever reveal?" adds a note of uncertainty, as though they may not have expressed their feelings for each other fully. The repetition of the phrase "this is all that we need" reinforces the idea that they don't need anything else but each other in this moment.
Overall, the lyrics of Waterbirds convey a sense of nostalgia and a longing for connection, whether with nature or with another person.
