Listen
Terri-B Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Always moving in opposite directions
To a new place where you belong
Don't turn around
You've been learning how to meet your expectations
Carry on move along
Ooo listen to the wind
Ooo waiting for the stiches to mend
What do you see
Every time you think about yourself
How do you feel
Ooo listen to the wind
Ooo waiting for the stiches to mend
Ooo listen to the wind
Ooo waiting for the stiches to mend
In Terri-B's song "Listen," the singer contemplates the struggle of moving forward, even when that progress involves leaving behind familiar places and people. The first lines of the song reference the perpetual motion of life, where individuals are always in a state of flux, moving in opposite directions as they search for a sense of belonging. The concept of not turning around is significant as it speaks to the need to keep moving forward, growing, and evolving, and not getting stuck in the past.
The chorus of the song - "Ooo listen to the wind, Waiting for the stitches to mend" - is about the healing power of time and nature. It suggests that while the journey of self-improvement may be difficult, time and nature have the power to heal old wounds and provide the peace needed to continue forward. The second verse echoes the sentiment of the first verse in asking the listener to examine themselves honestly, to reflect on their inner strength, and to continue to push forward, even when faced with difficulty.
"Listen" is an emotive song that speaks to the human experience of feeling lost, but at the same time, it encourages the listener to push forward, and eventually, the wounds will heal. The overall message is one of hope, urging the audience to keep going, listen to the wind, and wait for their stitches to mend.

@Artsyblack
Madonna straight bit her style. This was Tairrie B's signature look. I used to see her at all the underground clubs in LA back in the day.
@MindTrickedX24
Yo, before this recent NWA rebirth, I'd completely forgotten about Tairrie B... and this song (and video) were my shit way back when. It's been almost 24 years since I last saw this, I think.
@lookitsapanther
It sounds like D.O.C. wrote this for her but I could be wrong. It just sounds so much like his rhyme schemes / patterns. Regardless if he did or didn't though she straight up killed this!!! Dope!!!
@LoftyArts

Cool thing most people didn't know is back then she was dating Everlast. This is back before he was House of Pain. He was rolling in Ice-T's crew back then.
@Blauqkween
I loooove old school, and I never heard of her. I just read Dee Barnes article and she mentioned her so I had to go see who she was. I liked the Rakim part.
@mrigmaiden1
@blaknite1 I never did neither. We was listening to this in EAST OAKLAND which was mostly Black back in the day. Believe me she had some hood cred back then even though there was haters. I thought she had a rapid fire delivery and hard lyrics so didn't get the vitriol. It's good to know she found her niche in another genre, and Ke$ha and the white girl mob have her to thank for their success!
