Amerika
Terrorgruppe Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hey ho, let's go
Wir sind in Amerika
Let's go, gabba gabba
Wir sind in Amerika, go

Die Strände sind länger
Und die Sonne scheint wärmer, in Amerika
Die Reichen sind reicher
Denn die Armen sind ärmer, in Amerika

Hurra hurra, wir sind in Amerika
Hurra hurra (hurra)
Hurra hurra, wir sind in Amerika
Hurra hurra (hurra)

Die Autos sind schicker
Und die Straßen viel breiter, in Amerika
Die Kinder sind dicker
Auch die Penner sind heiter, in Amerika

Hurra hurra, wir sind in Amerika
Hurra hurra (hurra)
Hurra hurra, wir sind in Amerika
Hurra hurra (hurra)

Die Burger sind billig
Und die Tellerwäscher willig
Die Cops sind krimineller
Und die Gangster schießen schneller
In Amerika, in, in Amerika

Hurra hurra, wir sind in Amerika
Hurra hurra (hurra)
Hurra hurra, wir sind in Amerika
Hurra hurra (hurra)

Hurra hurra, wir sind in Amerika
Hurra hurra (hurra)
Hurra hurra, wir sind in Amerika
Hurra hurra (hurra)

„Geh mir aus'm Weg
Aus'm Blickfeld“

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of Terrorgruppe's song "Amerika" describe the band's perception of the American lifestyle and culture. The song starts off with a reference to The Ramones' song "Blitzkrieg Bop" with the lines, "Hey ho, let's go" and adds, "Wir sind in Amerika" (We are in America) to mark their arrival. The first two lines of each verse describe the positive aspects of America with lengthy beaches, warmer sunshine, and fancy cars on broad roads. However, these things are shown to benefit only the rich, who are becoming richer in America at the expense of the poor who are becoming poorer. The chorus repeats the phrase "Hurra hurra" (hurray hurray), sarcastically celebrating their arrival in America.

The second two lines of each verse describe America's negative and paradoxical aspects. The children and homeless people, who are at the bottom of the country's social and economic ladder, are presented as being content with their lives, contrasting with the rich who are never satisfied despite their wealth. The song also portrays the dark side of American life such as violence and corruption, shown in the lines "Die Cops sind krimineller, Und die Gangster schießen schneller" (The cops are more criminal, and the gangsters shoot faster). The final lines of the song "Geh mir aus'm Weg, Aus'm Blickfeld" (Get out of my way, out of my sight) suggest that the band has seen enough of America.
