The song "Kathedralen" by the German punk rock band Terrorgruppe is a commentary on the role of religion in society and the ways in which it has been used to manipulate and control people. The lyrics express a disdain for the idea that one's own God is superior to others and mocks the ways in which religious institutions have been used to justify violence and oppression.
The first verse begins with the assertion that the singer's God cannot be defeated and is greater than anyone else's. However, this confidence quickly turns into aggression as the singer declares that their opponent's God is insignificant and that they will become even more wicked. The next verse lists several historical methods of religious control, including torture, excommunication, and inquisitions. The singer then laments the fact that despite the many advances in technology and society, we still seem to be stuck in the same pattern of violence and aggression.
