Adios Mexico
Texas Tornados The Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Adiós México
Adiós México
How I got along without ya, I never know
Now it's adiós México

I got a little chavala
Down there in Lake, Lake Chapala
Adiós México

Well, a sweet señorita is waiting for me
Down there in Ajijic
And I love her
Adiós México
Adiós México
Adiós México
How I got along without ya, I never know
Now it's adiós México

Adiós México
Adiós México
How I got along without ya, I never know
Now it's adiós México

Well, a sweet señorita is waiting for me
Down there in Ajijic
And I love her
Adiós México
Adiós México
Adiós México
How I got along without ya, I never know
Now it's adiós México

Adiós México
Adiós México
How I got along without ya, I never know
Now it's adiós México

Adiós México, fade

Overall Meaning

The Texas Tornadoes' song "Adios Mexico" is a tribute to Mexico and its people. The song is about leaving Mexico behind to go back to the United States, but it's not a sad farewell. Instead, it's a celebration of the good times, the beauty, and the love found in Mexico. The song starts with repeating the phrase "Adios Mexico," which translates to "Goodbye Mexico." The singer then admits that they don't know how they got along without Mexico and now must say goodbye; they didn't anticipate how much they would love the country.

The singer mentions two places in Mexico: Lake Chapala and Ajijic. Lake Chapala is a massive freshwater lake in west-central Mexico, and Ajijic is a small town located on the northern shore of the lake. The singer has a little chavala (girl) down at Lake Chapala and a sweet senorita (lady) waiting for them in Ajijic. The love they found in Mexico is what makes the goodbye bittersweet. It's clear that the singer will miss these people and the country that brought them together.

The song's upbeat melody sets the perfect tone for this goodbye. It's joyful and celebratory, not melancholic like other farewell songs. The Texas Tornadoes were known for their blend of Tex-Mex, country, and rock and roll. This song is a prime example of their unique sound.

There ain't no other Tex-Mex band like this one can make me start grinning and feeling better. I miss the hell outta Freddie Fender. I grew up listening to him. My Mama was crazy about Freddie! Lol! Anyway, just wanted to say I think y'all are outstanding. Freddie would be so proud and pleased. Thanks for the great time. Hola to Flaco. Ain't never gonna be another like him either.
