Tha Dogg Pound Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I know you're bobbin' your head, 'cause I can see ya, huh
Yeah, I know you're bobbin' your head, 'cause I can see ya, uh
Uh, yeah, I know you're bobbin' your head, 'cause I can see ya (yeah)
Yeah, I know you're bobbin' your head (da da da dee)
'Cause I can see ya (da da da da da da da)

You can't see me, ha
Back up in that ass once again
With some of Dat Nigga Daz shit, haha
Beatin' up on your ear drums with some of that G Funk, ha
Some of that gangsta funk
Some of that ghetto funk, ha
Call it what you want, just don't forget the G, haha
The motherfuckin' Dogg Pound in the house

Now tell me what's poppin' in your head, my brother?
What you wan' do, end up dead, motherfucker?
I don't know why we got to kill each other
'Cause on the streets is do or die, motherfucker

Now as a child I was raised in the church
Now whatever possessed me to do the shit that I do to put you in the dirt?
I gives a fuck about a nigga on the streets (uh)
I'm runnin' '94 and I done ran '93, don't like no hurdle
For the murders I committed in my homie '4 convertible
And not a soul saw who did it (nigga)
As I lean to the side in my homie G-Ride
On a mission, fo' deep, Dogg Pound do or die

Now if you see me mobbin' down the streets, what would you think? (Not)
Realizin' that I'm survivin' off instinct
What makes my mind give the perfect timin'
For me to twist shit, switch and rip shit the fuck up like "The Shining"
'Cause I'm in my own zone, alone I'm found
Empty inside but death is all around like a ghost town
Perhaps you know I acts a fool if I have to
Can you comprehend or adapt to

Respect to the Deathrow Inmates
Deathrow Inmates Lawd dem never hesitate
To bust a gun shot, in a idiot face
Diss Tha Dogg Pound and your life goes to waste
'Fraid, Dogg Pound territory
Dat Da Nigga Daz will put you inna di cemetery
Snoop Dogg di criminal mentality
Fuck wit' Dutty Kurupt and yuh dead each way
(D-G-P, Dogg Pound Gangstaz)
Lawd

Now wit' Dat Nigga Daz, everywhere I roll I'm set to blast
The rate of success is elevatin' too fast
Every corner that I turn, there's money to burn
With no concern, countin' the amount, there's more to be earned
Set-trip, the word I hear every nigga spit
Sixty percent's trippin', forty percent's bullshittin'
Industry's shady, my safety's in jeopardy
Controllin' minds like mental telepathy, niggas
Shady as fuck, Kurupt can see it in your eyes
Anticipatin' for the real to come from the disguise
The Pound, we roll thick like one-time
And I could fuck yo' bitch after I bust just one rhyme
All we do is smoke weed and get blitzed
And kick that motherfuckin' gangsta shit
(Say what, say what, say what, say what, say what?)
Kick that motherfuckin' gangsta shit

Well, I see myself on top, by the age of twenty-two
Or will I drop? A fallen star that has been forgotten, not
In the past, I mainly hustled for the cash
Surprised to see that nigga rise up on that ass
Anybody killa, do or die if I have to
On deck, 24/7 and blastin' if I have to
I live my life by the sword, accordin' to the law
Before I stopped, I wonder why the journey's so far
From the danger that lurks, from the one that's out doin' dirt
Step to mine and find yourself vanish away from this Earth
Beyond the heartbreaks and heartaches, rest in peace
Ride or die, death is unexplainable when you die

We don't have to stoop low
We don't have to stoop
No, we don't have to stoop to their level (level)
But when they see we comin' Lawd
Ah when they see we comin' Lawd
Ah when they see we comin' Lawd, dem tremble (tremble)
Cah we a rebel, terrible, we well flexible
And you know we keep a grip to make your life invisible
So don't fuck, you betta be respectable
The nine millimeter, is really incredible
Wicked an' wild, yes, you're wicked an' wild
Prince Ital Joe, yes, me well versatile
Is it Dogg Pound? Yes, you're well versatile
Deh pon di bitch weh mek di gangsta smile, cah

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to Tha Dogg Pound's Respect are layered and nuanced, showcasing the complexities of gang and ghetto life. The first few verses talk about the G-Funk and gangsta music that the Dogg Pound is known for, with the artists proudly proclaiming their affiliation with gangsterism. However, as the song progresses, the lyrics become more introspective, with the artists reflecting on the consequences of their actions and questioning why they must resort to killing each other. The chorus speaks to the need for respect and the recognition that, despite their tough exterior, the artists are vulnerable and human.

The lyrics also touch on themes of survival, isolation, and the need for community. The artists speak to the reality that life on the streets is fraught with danger, making survival a top priority. At the same time, the artists acknowledge that they are often isolated, "empty inside" with "death all around like a ghost town." And yet, they stick together, forming a tight-knit community that helps them survive.

Overall, Respect is a powerful and complex song that highlights the challenges and realities of gang and ghetto life. It recognizes the humanity and vulnerability of those who live in these conditions while still celebrating their strength and resilience.

STILL does on the low facts! People just don't care anymore bkz It's a NEW generational time is all. He's still one of the BEST to ever do it period. Even BETTER than DR Dre.

He just didn't know how MIX, ARRANGE as a good as Dre bkz he was so young. But his IDEA's & concepts will CRUCSH Dre's very best work songs which to me was the D.O.C's only but Hall Of Fame record "NO ONE CAN DO IT BETTER"!

That's as close as Dre ever got to producing something that sounded THIS FAT & FUNKY. And it still doesn't come close BEAT wise althougt LYIRICALLY the D.O.C will smash Kurrupt & DAZ.

AS a Matter of facts the D.O.C Is the one WHON TAUGHT, TRAINED SNOOP, DAZ, KURRUPT on what TRUE MC-manship truly was & they'll ALL tell U that facts l bro ijs lol

His work on "The Chronic" beat wise was second to NONE, legendary. Songs such as "Let me ride, Little Ghetto boy, G Thang" are CLASSIC, TIMELESS & nothing can or could ever compare.

The CHRONIC is the GREATEST overall Hip Hop album 360 degree's ever made. And I CHALLENGE any fkn body EAST OR WEST BOAST >>to present a better Album to challenge it ahah.

@KENNY G. Agreed. I jammed this all the time in high school but there were definitely a couple tracks I'd skip past. Even those tracks sound better than the garbage put out today.

@Infected_Chris , hey I hear you man!..maybe it's a matter of preference but I can't get jiggy with most of the stuff that's been out the past 10 years. Never been the type to jump on every train that passes by

The clarity and the quality is out of this world for an album released 20 years ago

+MV Doldrums Good ear bro.. Daz was a definite perfectionist, I dont know if he did all these tracks himself, but he learned from Dre, Warren and some others. He has known the whole game for a long time. Mixing ,mastering, the whole 9 yards.. He has a n impressive resume, did it all while high too.

Dr dre is very modest when it comes to his music. He doesn't brag ,just does his thing and moves on. Snoop confessed that dre helped daz produce this record but allowed daz take credit and dre credited as mixer. The common denominator on all these great beats always dre

Gardi

+motun phillips where does snoop say this because this sounds like daz production if you listen to other dpg/daz/kurupt projects this is daz's sound. Dre's production is way different not saying your wrong I just need proof to believe that daz didn't produce this
