Leave Me Alone
Thanksgiving Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
One thing is so many things,
You'll never know them all.
All you who criticize and disgrace my moments,
Listen to the wind,
Watch the sun as it rises,
Feel the night fall,
Know the morning,
See it for how it are.
I am in the shadows
Leave me there alone
The lyrics of Thanksgiving's song "Leave Me Alone" speak of the subjectivity of perception and the limitations of our understanding. The opening lines suggest that our thoughts impart meaning into things, but since there are infinite ways to interpret the same thing, we can never truly grasp all its depths. The singer implies that the critics who condemn his actions fail to see the bigger picture and are limited by their own perceptions. He urges them to look at the world beyond their judgments - to feel the natural transitions of the day and night and embrace the beauty of the world.
The last two lines bring the song's theme to a personal level, with the singer seeking solitude in the shadows. It's seemingly a plea to be left alone, to be allowed to exist privately without the judgments of others. Perhaps it's a comment on the isolating pressures of fame or the desire for people to live independent of social expectations. Either way, it's a poignant moment in the song, an invocation of the human craving for autonomy and solace.
