Love It If We Made It
The 1975 Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We're fucking in a car, shooting heroin
Saying controversial things just for the hell of it
Selling melanin and then suffocate the black men
Start with misdemeanors and we'll make a business out of them
And we can find out the information access all the applications
That are hardening positions based on miscommunication
Oh, fuck your feelings, truth is only hearsay
We're just left to decay, modernity has failed us

And I'd love it if we made it
Yes, I'd love it if we made it
Yes, I'd love it if we made it
Yes, I'd love it if we made it

And poison me, daddy, I've got the Jones right through my bones
Write it on a piece of stone, a beach of drowning three-year-olds
Rest in peace Lil Peep, the poetry is in the streets
Jesus save us, modernity has failed us

And I'd love it if we made it
Yes, I'd love it if we made it
Yes, I'd love it if we made it
Yes, I'd love it if we made it
And I'd love it if we made it
And I'd love it if we made it, oh
And I'd love it if we made it
I'd love it if we made it
Tell me something I didn't know

Consultation, degradation
Fossil fueling, masturbation
Immigration, liberal kitsch
Kneeling on a pitch

"I moved on her like a bitch", excited to be indicted
Unrequited house with seven pools, "Thank you, Kanye, very cool"
The war has been incited, and guess what? You're all invited
And you're famous, modernity has failed us

And I'd love it if we made it
And I'd love it if we made it
And I'd love it if we made it
Tell me something I didn't know
And I'd love it if we made it
And I'd love it if we made it

And I'd love it if we made it
And I'd love it if we made it

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of "Love It If We Made It" by The 1975 touch on various social and political issues of modern society, including drug abuse, racism, police brutality, global warming, immigration, and political corruption. The opening lines of the song depict the characters in the act of drug addiction, engaging in risky behavior and making controversial statements without caring about the consequences of their actions. The lyrics also draw attention to the systemic racial inequality, where black men are suffocated and criminalized for minor offenses, which are later turned into profitable businesses. The song then shifts its focus to the current state of global affairs, where access to information and communication has created a misinformed society, deaf to the truth and left to decay in their ignorance.

The lyrics continue to touch on deeper societal issues, such as the opioid epidemic that has plagued the world for years, and the innocence of children who perish in violent or natural disasters. The lyrics "Poison me, daddy, I've got the Jones right through my bones, write it on a piece of stone, a beach of drowning three-year-olds" allude to both the drug addiction epidemic and the death of innocent children through drowning, which is a frequent occurrence in countries around the world.

The song's chorus "And I'd love it if we made it, yes I'd love it if we made it," suggests a hope for change and a brighter future. It's a call for action, for society to wake up, acknowledge the issues that plague it, and collaborate to try and solve them.

“Modernity has failed us” is such a strong lyric.

@Lead1121

Yaretzy garcia true

@lisabelamarschild6995

There is some truth in this but i would add that this is only because modernity was made ill by a disease called capitalism which is the real cause of global extinction.

@lisabelamarschild6995

There is some truth to that idea but it was caused because modernity was infected by a parasite called capitalism.
People need to embrace a hopeful vision of our future on/in this world with technology and modernity used to help save us from global extinction. The only way this will happen will be to totally destroy capitalism and create a new human form of living in our society which is loving & caring & sharing & compassionate and fun and which makes individual human life/rights the most important thing this world has as its most basic politics and the most basic and important human right is the right to life and this means the right to a world which will continue to have life including ours upon it's surface. Greed which is capitalism is inherently anti-world and anti-life. Capitalism is a form of insanity.

@@lisabelamarschild6995 You might actually be insane.

@strawwberryyy

@@lisabelamarschild6995 yes!!! I'm 100% with you and anti-capitalism needs to be discussed more. I believe capitalism is one of the most important causes behind global warming, addiction, mental health problems and political cynicism. We are simply not made to live this way and capitalism makes us suffer.
