This track origin… Read Full Bio ↴The 1975 is the opening track to every 1975 album.
This track originally utilized various euphemisms for oral sex.
The title track opens The 1975’s self-titled debut. It has been interpreted to be an intro to “Sex,” another track on that album which expresses intimate details. It was revamped, with the same lyrics, as the opening track on The 1975’s second album, 'I Like It When You Sleep For You Are So Beautiful Yet So Unaware Of It'. It was again used as the opening track on the band's third album 'A Brief Inquiry Into Online Relationships', once again retaining the lyrics, but with revamped music.
A new interpretation of the track was included on the band's fourth album 'Notes on a Conditional Form' which abandoned the original lyrics in favour of a spoken word speech by teenage climate change activist Greta Thunberg.
For their fifth album 'Being Funny in a Foreign Language' the band once again changed up their eponymous title track by returning to lyrics penned and sung by frontman Matty Healy. Rather than the concise ten line poem about oral sex of the first three albums, this time Healy points out his own flaws in a stream of consciousness, over pianos inspired by LCD Soundsystem's 'All My Friends'.

Soft sound
Midnight
Car lights
Playing with the air
Breathing in your hair
Go down
Soft sound
I'd rather jump in your bones
Taking up your mouth, so you breathe through your nose
The opening track of The 1975's self-titled debut album, "The 1975," is a mesmerizing introduction to the band's unique sound. The lyrics instantly draw us in with their seductive references to nighttime activities, as the singer recommends "going down" and enjoying the "soft sound" of the moment. The imagery of "car lights" and "breathing in your hair" paints a picture of intimacy and closeness, perhaps suggesting a romantic encounter taking place in a car or in the dark.
However, the song takes on a slightly darker tone with the lines "Step into your skin? I'd rather jump in your bones / Taking up your mouth, so you breathe through your nose." Here, the singer seems to be talking about a desire to possess their lover completely, to merge with them in a physical and emotional sense. The image of "jumping in your bones" suggests a desire for complete immersion and connection, while "taking up your mouth" implies a level of control or dominance that may not be entirely healthy.
Overall, "The 1975" is a mood-setting opener that draws us into the world of the band and sets the tone for the rest of their captivating debut album.

If anyone is interested, here are the lyrics to this song:
That's how it starts
We go back to your house
We check the charts
And start to figure it out
And if it's crowded, all the better
Because we know we're gonna be up late
But if you're worried about the weather
Then you picked the wrong place to stay
That's how it starts
And so it starts
You switch the engine on
We set controls for the heart of the sun
One of the ways we show our age
And if the sun comes up, if the sun comes up, if the sun comes up
And I still don't wanna stagger home
Then it's the memory of our betters
That are keeping us on our feet
You spent the first five years trying to get with the plan
And the next five years trying to be with your friends again
You're talking 45 turns just as fast as you can
Yeah, I know it gets tired, but it's better when we pretend
It comes apart
The way it does in bad films
Except in parts
When the moral kicks in
Though when we're running out of the drugs
And the conversation's winding away
I wouldn't trade one stupid decision
For another five years of life
You drop the first ten years just as fast as you can
And the next ten people who are trying to be polite
When you're blowing eighty-five days in the middle of France
Yeah, I know it gets tired only where are your friends tonight?
And to tell the truth
Oh, this could be the last time
So here we go
Like a sail's force into the night
And if I made a fool, if I made a fool, if I made a fool
On the road, there's always this
And if I'm sewn into submission
I can still come home to this
And with a face like a dad and a laughable stand
You can sleep on the plane or review what you said
When you're drunk and the kids leave impossible tasks
You think over and over, "hey, I'm finally dead"
Oh, if the trip and the plan come apart in your hand
You look contorted on yourself your ridiculous prop
You forgot what you meant when you read what you said
And you always knew you were tired, but then
Where are your friends tonight?
Where are your friends tonight?
Where are your friends tonight?
If I could see all my friends tonight
If I could see all my friends tonight
If I could see all my friends tonight
If I could see all my friends tonight

LYRICS ⬇️
This will get bigger if you know what I mean
I’m sorry if you’re livin’ and you’re seventeen
I heard it’s en vogue to be super thin
But your friends aren’t thick so they can’t come in
I’m feelin’ apathetic after scrollin’ through hell
I think I’ve got a boner
But I can’t really tell and the fans are on
It’s cynical
This Adderall
And vitriol
And young people drinkin’ Aperol
And it’s about time
This is what it looks like
I’m sorry about my twenties, I was learnin’ the ropes
I had a tendency of thinkin’ about it after I spoke
We’re experiencin’ life through the postmodern lens
Oh, call it like it is
You’re makin’ an aesthetic out of not doin’ well
And minin’ all the bits of you
You think you can sell whilst the fans are on
Whimsical, political
Liberal, with young people as collateral
You see, I can’t sleep ’cause the American Dream
Has been buying up all of my self-esteem
While QAnon created a legitimate scene
But it was just some bloke in the Philippines
And it’s about time
(And it’s about time)
(This is what it looks like)
(And it’s about time)
(And it’s about time)
(This is what it looks like)
(This is what it looks like)
I’m sorry if you’re livin’ and you’re seventeen (x8)

I love how LCD Soundsystem always make their way into The '75 albums
@desoc1111
Does it? I never realized it. What other 1975 songs reference LCD?
@MR-jh8hq
@@desoc1111 there’s a reference to All My Friends in Sex. The first line in both songs is “and this is how it starts” and the melody is identical as well.
@desoc1111
@@MR-jh8hq Wow, I never realized that, thanx!
