Falling for You
The 1975 (Live In Seattle) Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

What time you coming down?
We started losing light
I'll never make it right
If you don't wonder off
I'm so excited for the night
All we needs my bike
And you're in August house
You said some very mind well
Closer to your height and
Then we'll knock around, endlessy
You're all I need

Don't you see me and
I think I'm falling
I'm falling for you
Don't you need me
I I think I'm falling
I'm falling for you
And on this night
And in this life
I think I'm falling
I'm falling for you
Maybe you change your mind
I think I'm falling
I think I'm falling

Have you caught any coke yet?
You still don't know it's right
I read between the lines
And touch your leg again, again
I'll take you one day at a time
Say you will be mine
Oh but what u know, but what u know
When the smoke is in your eyes
You look so alive
Do u fancy sitting down?
With me? maybe?
You're all I need
I call into your hands
Mile play system it never ends
The feeling of your eyes
I don't wanna be your friend
I wanna kiss your neck

Don't you see me, I
I think I'm falling
I'm falling for you
Don't you need me, I
I think I'm falling
I'm falling for you
And on this night
And in this life
I think I'm falling

I'm falling for you
Maybe you change your mind

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to The 1975's song "fallingforyou" speak to the vulnerability of falling in love and the uncertainty that comes with it. The song tells the story of two people who are spending time together, but the singer is unsure if the other person feels the same way he does. He asks what time the other person is coming over, and they start losing light, which could symbolize the fading of their relationship. He admits that he'll never make things right if the other person doesn't reciprocate his feelings. However, he's excited about spending the night with the other person, and he suggests they ride his bike to August's house. This could represent a moment of freedom and adventure.

The singer then questions whether or not the other person sees him and feels the same way he does. He thinks he's falling in love with them and wonders if they feel the same. The lyrics indicate that the other person may not be aware of his feelings, but he reads between the lines and touches their leg again, hoping they'll catch on. He takes things one day at a time and asks if the other person will be his. The lyrics mention smoking, and the smoke being in their eyes, making the other person look alive. The singer asks if they want to sit down with him, maybe be more than just friends. Ultimately, the song leaves us with uncertainty, a question of whether the other person will change their mind, and whether or not the singer will have his feelings reciprocated.

[Verse 1]
What time you coming out?
We started losing light
I'll never make it right
If you don't want me 'round
I'm so excited for the night
All we need's my bike and your enormous house
You said someday we might
When I'm closer to your height
'Til then, we'll knock around and see
If you're all I need

[Chorus]
Don't you see me? I
I think I'm falling, I'm falling for you
And don't you need me? I
I think I'm falling, I'm falling for you
On this night, and in this light
I think I'm falling (I think I'm falling), I'm falling for you
And maybe you, change your mind

[Verse 2]
I'm caught on your coat again
You said, "Oh no, it's fine"
I read between the lines and touched your leg again (Again)
I'll take it one day at a time
Soon you will be mine, oh
But I want you now (I want you now)
When the smoke is in your eyes, you look so alive
Do you fancy sitting down with me? Maybe
'Cause you're all I need

[Bridge]
According to your heart
My place is not deliberate
Feeling of your arms
I don't want to be your friend
I want to kiss your neck

[Chorus]
Don't you see me? I
I think I'm falling, I'm falling for you
And don't you need me? I
I think I'm falling (I think I'm falling), I'm falling for you
On this night, and in this light
I think I'm falling (I think I'm falling), I'm falling for you
And maybe you, change your mind

@irisirisirisirisirisiris

to the girl i introduced to the 1975:

you were my first: first girlfriend, first kiss, first love— you have the key to each and every one of those memories. your soul is golden; i’ve never thought anything more brilliant than what i think about you. you are patient and understanding. you see beauty in me that i can’t yet see myself.

you’ll never read this comment, but that’s okay; it just means that i can put my whole heart into what i’m trying to say. so rarely do you find two people who are so suited for each other, so compatible with each other, as you are with me. in my past life, i think it was you, too. in all my previous lives, it had to have been you. it’s always been you and me, and that’s how it’ll always be. i’d find you over and over again.

it feels like it’s been decades since we’ve met, it feels like eons, when in reality it’s only been a few years. so little yet so long at the same time! every day with you is a blessing, and i can’t wait to have more.

i know we haven’t seen each other in a while, and i’m sorry about that. i wish i lived closer to you or that i could drive to see you. i’m learning just for you, though! when the pandemic is all over, i’m going to show up at your doorstep uninvited, and you’ll see me and be surprised and kiss me right then and there. and someday in the far future, i’ll come home and open the door and you’ll be there to welcome me back.

to the girl i introduced to the 1975, you’re my best friend in the entire world, and for that i thank you.

@IIIIIIIIIIIIIIPKIIIIIIIIIIIIII

This song can either be really sad,
Or a wake up call...

Someone I once cared about more than anything in this whole universe, betrayed me.

I cared for that person more than anyone has ever cared for another human being, and I would have done literally anything for them.

I have been alone for so long... I've been with people but I haven't been there with them.

My soul left me that day.

It may never be replaced again.

I have a new person in my life now, they're really nice... hopefully one day we will have built close to what I once had.

Until then this will always be my song.

Thankyou 1975.
