HARVEST
The 3rd and the Mortal Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

The cat sharpens its claws
And runs into the cornfields
Children playing hide and seek
A frail figure dressed in a cape
Wandering with measured steps
Haunted by derisive words
They want to capture the ogress
Wandering aimlessly
Finding pebbles on the ground
Picking leaves from from an oaktree
Stalks make rents in green sails
Have some candy
She says
Far beneath the raging sea

Lies a monstrous vessel
Chained men singing elegies

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to The 3rd and the Mortal's song "Harvest" paint a vivid picture of a surreal and somewhat ominous scene. The first verse describes a cat sharpening its claws and darting into the cornfields while children play a game of hide and seek. This sets the stage for the appearance of a "frail figure dressed in a cape" who wanders aimlessly, haunted by derisive words. The lyrics suggest that there is something eerie and unsettling about this figure, with the mention of an "ogress" that others are seeking to capture.

In the second verse, the imagery becomes more abstract and dreamlike. The frail figure is now wandering through a landscape of pebbles, oak trees, and green sails torn by stalks. She offers candy to someone (perhaps one of the children from the first verse), before the lyrics take another surreal turn. The final line of the song mentions a "monstrous vessel" lying beneath the sea, with "chained men singing elegies".

Overall, the lyrics to "Harvest" create a haunting and otherworldly atmosphere. The use of specific images - the cat, the cornfields, the candy - creates a sense of familiarity that's juxtaposed with the surreal and unsettling elements of the song. The theme of wandering and searching, coupled with the idea of being haunted by derisive voices, suggests a deeper psychological meaning to the lyrics.

Aqui no Brasil pouquíssimas pessoas conhecem. E encontrar um CD é dificílimo, até mesmo nas grandes capitais.
