the light
The 4/4 Project Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

We sow what we reap, all the prophecies speak
Like mist our lives leave tell me what’s your legacy
That’s you let the people starve in their sleep
Chestnut faces you don’t like to see
Working twice as hard to earn half the rise
You are obliged to take all the rest
Come from a line where your work is your name and you get what they spat
Opportunity regurgitated digest
Food, at the belly of the beast
Mis oidos you know that they hear and you know that they bleed
The fire, molten miel
The power, of honey and milk
Por todo mi gente que tienen sed probastes el miel
Por todo mi gente que tienen sed probastes el miel
The power of honey and milk
Lost in time inside here I don't think I'll ever find it
Yell all day in silence, darkness fills nothing that I fear
Lost in time inside here I don't think I'll ever find it
Yell all day in silence, darkness fills nothing that I fear
I see the moon in the middle of the night I feel your presence
I send good vibes in the middle of the fight I’m sending blessings
I keep the vision when u throw the towel away I’m pushing limits
I kept the path but you chippin' on my brick you pull the tension
I see my vision so near, I see my vision from here
I see the light, I see the light
I see my vision from here, I see my vision so near
I see the light, I see the light
I see my vision from hear, I feel my vision so near
I see the light, I see the light
I see my vision from here, I see my vision so near
I see the light, I see the light
I can see the light, I can feel the sun rays on my skin started burning like it’s reflux
Contemplating every night when’s the moment imma make it to the sun or do I sit on it like detox
But we stop, then suddenly no more heat drops
Yes I got the answers, check my Reebok’s
In my tunnel I’m just trynna make a way from the grey, to a place so hot make your feet pop
Oh no no no, I can’t tell where to go
I keep doubting myself, am I good enough
The obstacle course of this journey has got me yearning for my ego to pick it up
Honestly think I’m in need of a pick me up
I need a chick to pick me up she magic like some pixie dust
Im just playing, my mind is only on greatness
Bout' to dog this whole moment just like a dane ready to dig it up yea
Lost in time inside here I don't think I'll ever find it
Yell all day in silence, darkness fills nothing that I fear
Lost in time inside here I don't think I'll ever find it
Yell all day in silence, darkness fills nothing that I fear
I see the moon in the middle of the night I feel your presence
I send good vibes in the middle of the fight I’m sending blessings
I keep the vision when u throw the towel away I’m pushing limits
I kept the path but you chippin' on my brick you pull the tension
I see the moon in the middle of the night I feel your presence
I send good vibes in the middle of the fight I’m sending blessings
I keep the vision when u throw the towel away I’m pushing limits
I kept the path but you chippin' on my brick you pull the tension
I see my vision from here, I see my vision so near
I see the light, I see the light
I feel my vision from here, I see my vision so clear
I see the light, I see the light
I see my vision from hear, I feel my vision so near
I see the light, I see the light

I see my vision so near, I see my vision from here
I see the light, I see the light

Overall Meaning

The song begins by emphasizing the importance of our actions and their consequences, using the adage "we sow what we reap." The lyrics suggest that our lives are fleeting, like mist that disappears quickly, and asks us to consider what we will leave behind as our legacy. The song then critiques those who let people suffer and starve in their sleep, and hints at the economic inequality that forces some to work twice as hard for half the reward. The lyrics suggest that some people come from a family lineage where their worth is tied to their work, and they are expected to bear the burden of others' privilege. The song acknowledges that this inequality exists at a systemic level, embodied by the phrase "the belly of the beast."

The second half of the song shifts tone and focuses on the idea of light and hope. The singer sees the moon in the middle of the night and feels a presence. They send good vibes in the middle of a struggle, and despite doubt and obstacles, they keep pushing toward their vision. The lyrics use concrete imagery, such as the feeling of the sun rays burning on the skin, to suggest that the singer is close to achieving their goals. The repeated phrase "I see the light" suggests a newfound clarity and optimism, and the song ends on this hopeful note.

Overall, the song appears to be a commentary on the struggle for equity and justice, while also recognizing the importance of hope and resilience in trying times. The use of concrete imagery and metaphor creates a rich, multilayered narrative.

lol, I’ve watched this song for a million times just to watch that part of “Ok”😂😂😂😂

@nathanielgrant3909

still here in 2021 breaking my neck to that..."okay"

@Anonymous-wy5dc

After listening many times I got what he meant with the "okay" at first i thought he was saying "okay" as in saying OJ is stupid for saying he's just OJ. But after nth times I got it. Jay is simply saying that there is no point in arguing with some people and just worry about building you and those around you. How much time have people spent trying to change another persons mind. OJ is not about that at the end he says it that this advice ain't free, it's worth millions but you can buy for 9.99.

Or maybe I'm reading into it too much.

“ I’m not black, I’m O.J”
....
“Ok..”
Powerful

@hankock09

why

@ariel6285

hankock09 because oj wasnt part of the black community for a long time, it was like he forgot about being black.

@ariel6285

YB lmao I responded very fast, but that’s very true, because I’m black my self and the reason I said that because O.J. Disrespected him self and the black community, like he was afraid of being black, risk taking almost because of all the shitty things that happened to black people
