They soon changed their name to The Adicts and became known for their distinctive Clockwork Orange 'Droog' image, which, along with their urgent, uptempo music and light-hearted lyrics, helped set them very much apart from the rest of the genre. Temporary 1980s name changes to ADX and FUN ADICTS, for a children's TV appearance, also occurred.
Their song "Viva La Revolution" was featured in the video game Tony Hawk's Underground.
The band still has all its original members, uncommon for a band with such longevity.
The music of The Adicts proves that punk music is a very broad genre, often featuring extra instruments and sound clips such as carousel music (How Sad), violin played by Derick Cook (Joker in the Pack), gongs and keyboard percussion by Anthony Boyd (Chinese Takeaway), and even completely different songs like the switch to Gain To Lose's Tune #24 at the end of G.I.R.L..
The look of the majority of the bandmates is that of the Droogs from the Stanley Kubrick film A Clockwork Orange based on the book by Anthony Burgess. All white with black combat boots and black bowler hats. The band says that the look appealed to them because of the teenage angst associated with A Clockwork Orange. Singer "Monkey" wears full joker make-up and his clothes are wild, patterned suits, flared trousers, colorful dress shirts, and other such things. His favorites seem to be checkerboard patterns, or polkadots. And of course, there's the obligatory bowler hat and gloves. Along with the look come stage antics involving streamers, confetti, playing cards, joker hats, toy instruments, and glitter just to name a few things.

Saturday Night
The Adicts Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
just stood and stared.
The Bohemians said they didn't
but they cared.
The lords and the ladies,
felt they're gonna drag em down.
The armaggedon dance,
that could never make a sound.
Don't you know, its saturday.
don't you know its saturday night.
Don't you know, its saturday.
don't you know its allright
The heavy weight candidate,
moved to one side.
be a Mama gotta hunger,
just lay down and die.
Friends and lovers fall to the floor.
Mr. Personality, suddenly a bore.
Don't you know, its saturday.
don't you know its saturday night.
Don't you know, its saturday.
don't you know its allright.
Late nite kid, said my oh my.
A mystery & Dennis walked by.
Every head talked and every head turned.
He was so hot that he burned.
Don't you know, its saturday.
don't you know its saturday night.
Don't you know, its saturday.
don't you know its allright
The Adicts's "Saturday Night" speaks to the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. The song lyrics showcase a compelling narrative, as the ravers and enthusiasts just stood and observed, while the Bohemians stated that they didn't care but indeed cared. The lords and ladies felt that the partygoers were going to pull them down, which is when the Armageddon dance came into play, which despite its sanctity, could never make a sound.
The song's lyrics celebrate the essence of Saturday night, as evidenced by the lyrics' continual repetition," Don't you know, it's Saturday/ Don't you know it's Saturday night/ Don't you know it's Saturday/ Don't you know it's all right?" The 'Saturday Night' atmosphere continues to feel surreal with the heavy candidate weight, a Mama with hunger; laying down and eventually dying. Friends, lovers falling to the floor, the description of Mr. Personality suddenly becoming a bore. All of these build up the party's atmosphere, eluding the madness that can encompass the said night.
The song description sees a late-night kid admiring a beautiful girl, and every head turns as they stroll by, the ultimate centerpiece in the beautiful 'Saturday Night' festivities. This song's danceable beat reflects the excitement and anticipation that comes with spending a night out with friends, with an underlying message for revelers to live in the moment of the beautiful night.
