Follow the Crossed Line
The Agonist Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Would there be a sign to save me from my sins?
Can you find the will to fake a bitter grin?
Eyes wide shut and I'm sinking in too deep,
Cause I'm stigmatized by all the lesser human beings.

Empty shells rising.
No disgrace - no remorse.
Absently intruding into thought, into mind.

Faith is the fuel for your survival.

You are condemned to their mockery.
Giving purpose to the deceased.
Forgiveness I shall grant.
In your your defense you must repent.

Follow the crossed line.
Follow when all senses will transform to logic.
Mass consumption of the thirst for power.
This illusionary key's my ticket.
To as simulated freedom.

A reflection greatly outlived.
Seek permission for desires within.
Blindly trailing towards the path prescribed.
Your free will equals misconception.

Bound in chains, never cease to deny.
Wicked presence alluringly divine.
Fall to make peace with your ill defeat.
Stank tall and claim for amnesty.

When all senses will transform to logic.
Mass consumption of the thirst for power.
This illusionary key's my ticket.
To a simulated freedom.

In the name of the temple, you rise and fall,
Burn the savior to honor the scribes.
Silence! Mass has begun.
Originality shunned by religion.

Faith is the fuel for your survival.

Overall Meaning

The Agonist's "Follow the Crossed Line" is a song that delves into the inner conflicts of an individual struggling to find a way out of their sins. The opening lines suggest that the singer is desperate for salvation and is searching for a sign that can help them escape the guilt they feel. They ask if it is possible to "fake a bitter grin" and hide their true emotions. The following lines suggest that their despair is deep-rooted and they feel like they are sinking too deep.

The singer feels stigmatized by people who they consider lesser human beings. They talk about empty shells rising and absently intruding into their thoughts. The lyrics hint at a society where people are divided and judgmental. The singer is desperate to find the strength to follow the right path but feels constrained by the expectations of others.

The chorus of the song talks about following the crossed line and transforming all senses to logic. It suggests that people are driven by a thirst for power, which is an illusionary key to simulated freedom. The temple mentioned in the lyrics represents an institution that has lost its originality and shuns the idea of individuality. The song ultimately suggests that faith is the fuel for survival, but it needs to be combined with repentance and forgiveness.

True alyssia gulz white had good growls but this woman beats her in that clean vocals it's a extremely hard call who's better

Alissa’s growls are more diverse, but Vicki’s got her beat with cleans any day of the week. Alissa is always so off key :p

Can't stop listening to song.....Hypnotizing voice and heavy instrumentals too strong can't resist

I was reluctant to even listen to this band after Alyssa was dismissed, but, after hearing this song, I'm completely floored! I actually think they got better.

Alissa wasn't dismissed LOL, Angela chose her as her replacement and she left by choice.

+Patrick C. I may have been hasty on my wording on dismissal, but I do believe I read on Blabbermouth that she was going to pull double duty with both bands, but that the guys in The agonist decided on not having her back (her words), so that's why I assumed she was dismissed. I really like the new singer and the music though. 😀

She was dismissed. She wanted to stay in the band. The rest of the band said they didn't want her to do double duty and dismissed her.

This is the best song I've heard from the Agonist since Prisoners. Almost makes me want to go check out the rest of the album. But having heard the other videos they've put out since Alissa left says I shouldn't waste my time. Everything else I've heard is generic and watered down. This reminds me of their first 3 albums.
