The Awakening
The Air I Breathe Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Let it be known, the end is visible
And where you stand is critical
We can't reach what we condone
Descended by the image of the cynical

Forgive us for we didn't know it laid so visceral

Nowhere to hide, I fear it draws close.
Head for the hills, and watch it unfold

This is the expiration of the old domain;
Devastation
We will overcome this,
But for now we must suffer
For now we must pay.
We have to face this.
And so we march
Back and forth
Back and forth
Step by step
Back and forth
back and forth

Guide us with your exclamation.
Will the new world reach our expectations?
A striking disclosure of what's to come,
But after it's gone, will there be remorse?

Open up the sky.
Let it rain down and flood this world of mine.
Consume us all.

Infect us all with masses of every foe.
We won't rest our Souls 'til caskets are hammered closed.

Here we stand at the edge of the Earth.
I can see them waiting.
(I) won't look back.
The time is now.
It's ours for the taking.

We carry out!
We carry out!

I have come to realize...
I'm already dead.

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of The Air I Breathe’s song The Awakening paint a picture of impending doom and devastation, caused in part by those who condone and embody cynicism. The singer acknowledges that the end is visible and critical decisions must be made regarding where one stands in the face of the disaster. The imagery of nowhere to hide and the need to head for the hills conveys a sense of urgency and desperation. The singer acknowledges that the old domain is ending and the agony and suffering must be endured, but it is not without potential for redemption. The repetition of “back and forth” in the lyrics implies a struggle and a need for perseverance in the face of the end. The singer pleads for guidance and wonders if the new world will meet one’s expectations. However, the singer acknowledges that once the end has come and gone, the question of remorse remains.

The lyrics also suggest that the singer desires a purging of the world with extreme measures, with the singer concluding that they are already dead. The lyrics imply a belief that humanity as a whole must suffer and endure the end while hoping for redemption. Overall, the song conveys a sense of urgency, tension, and desperation for humanity in the face of destruction, and the need for both individual and societal responsibility and redemption.

The ending guitar solo's of this song are godlike.

Wow. My friend recommended this to me, and I don't regret taking the time to look them up. This is a phenomenal metalcore band, and something about them makes them stand out from most Rise bands.

I am proud to say that I fucking loved this band, supported this band, and talked to this band before they even got signed . I can't wait for them to come to my city because they are most deffinately a favorite <3

@pribulasaurus

AHHHHHH SO BOMB!!! I thought the solo was amazing in the demo version, but after hearing this I don't even understand how they made it better!

@AgentSpiral

My mind has officially been blown.When this song was over, my shirt was off, my pants were unzipped, and I was on the corner somewhere in downtown Thailand.

@cheffboyardee123

I'm pretty well versed in the metal world seeing as how I like almost every sub-genre and listen to a ton of bands, and I'm also a guitarist. With that said I can honestly say that in the Metal-core world this band shows a lot of promise this song alone has one of the best instrumentals in the metal-core genre. Not only is the song catchy but its good technically and has good breakdowns that suit the core aspect. If they are as good live as they are in the studio I expect this band to blow up.

@dcbcballer24s

I can't get over the solo. Oh my god.
