Here I Sit

I think I'd like you right on top
All I have is a mind that needs to sink
You're always right on top
Guess if you were around tonight I'd know
I'd ask the questions if you still got it
You still got it?
Hey
Here I sit in a place we used to lay
And I'd love you right on top
Now I know like a taste that melts away
One day you'll stop
If you say
"I'm scared"
It's never right
It's unfair
Was it ever right?
It's too bad you're lonely
'Cause I'm alright as long as I'm with you
As long as I'm with you (as long as I'm with you)
Guess your name on a wall I see
Your face too and I just can't stop
Because I know your body your press your taste you waste
When you're not right on top
Guess if you were around tonight I'd think
I'd ask the questions if you still got it?
Do you still got it?
I'll ask the questions again
Do you still got it?
'Cause I got it
If you say
"I'm scared"
It's never right
It's unfair
Was it ever right?
It's too bad you're lonely
'Cause I'm alright as long as I'm with you
You say
"It's just goodnight"
It's no way
But I can't deny
This once and only
'Cause I'm alright as long as I'm with you
I think that you know
I don't want to want you
All that I need is a better day
I want you to know too, you can leave me dry
Can't you leave me tonight?
If you say
"I'm scared"
It's never right
It's unfair
Was it ever right?
It's too bad you're lonely
'Cause I'm alright as long as I'm
If you say
"I'm scared"
It's never right
It's unfair
Was it ever right?
It's too bad you're lonely (lonely)
'Cause I'm alright as long as I'm with you
You say
"It's just goodnight"
It's no way
But I can't deny
This once and only (and only)
'Cause I'm alright as long as I'm with you
(I don't want to want you) As long as I'm with you
(I don't want to need you) As long as I'm with
(I don't want to want you) It's too bad you're lonely (lonely)
'Cause I'm alright as long as I'm with you
('cause I'm alright as long as I'm with you)
The All-American Rejects' song Here I Sit is a love song that reverberates with a sense of longing and vulnerability. The singer, seemingly in a low-lit room, is thinking of the person they love and fantasising about being with them. The lyrics "I'd like you right on top, All I have is a mind that needs to sink/You're always right on top" convey a sense of wanting to be physically close to this person and feeling powerless to resist them. The singer expresses a desire to be with the person they love and the lyrics "Guess if you were around tonight I'd know/I'd ask the questions if you still got it/You still got it?" demonstrate a degree of uncertainty and anxiety around the relationship.
The song then takes on an introspective and reflective tone, as the lyrics "Here I sit in a place we used to lay/And I'd love you right on top/Now I know like a taste that melts away/One day you'll stop" convey a sense of nostalgia and acceptance that things may not always last forever. The singer acknowledges the impermanence of love and that it may only last for a fleeting moment. The chorus of the song then repeats the sentiment that the singer is alright as long as they are with the person they love, highlighting the depth of their feelings.
