Stormy Monday
The Allman Brothers Band Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

They call it stormy Monday
But Tuesday's just as bad
They call it stormy Monday
But Tuesday's just as bad
Lord, and Wednesday's worse
And Thursday's all so bad

The eagle flies on Friday
Saturday I go out to play
The eagle flies on Friday
Saturday I go out to play
Sunday I go to church, yeah
Gonna kneel down and pray

Lord have mercy
Lord have mercy on me
Lord have mercy
Lord have mercy on me
Though I'm tryin' and tryin' to find my baby
Won't somebody please send 'er home

Oh ho
Lord have mercy
Lord have mercy on me
Yeah, I'm proud, Lord have mercy
Lord have mercy on me

Though I'm tryin', tryin' to find my baby
Won't send 'er home, yeah, oh baby

Overall Meaning

The Allman Brothers Band's song "Stormy Monday" is a classic blues song that describes the difficulties of life. The song begins by stating that Monday is a stormy day, but the other days of the week are just as bad, if not worse. Every day feels like a struggle, and the singer is pleading for some relief. The song continues by comparing the days of the week to different activities. Friday is the day when the eagle flies, and Saturday is the day for playing. Sunday is a day for prayer and reflection, and the singer is asking for divine assistance.

The chorus of the song repeats the phrase "Lord have mercy on me" four times, emphasizing the singer's desperation. He is trying to find his baby but is having no success, and his pride is getting in the way. The song ends with a plea for someone to send his baby home. The song is a powerful expression of the human struggle and the desire for help and guidance.

My Father was there as well. Still have the pics he took and some autographs. Fast forward to May 12, 2005, I was 29 years old. I was in a band that opened for the Bros. at Verizon Wireless Music Center(Oak Mtn). We were nobodys that just toured and played, but it was one of the greatest moments of my life and my fathers. To see his son share the stage with some of the original Bros., all meet backstage, bring those pics and old autographs for them to see, and just see the feelings and emotions on their faces when they saw all of it. Greg was so emotional about the whole situation. It was awsome.

This is the best live album of all time. The Allman's were the best R&R to ever come out of America !

I've been a guitar player for close to 55 years and I've played with some great players and I like to think of myself as a strong player as well, but never have I ever heard two guitar players work in such perfect synchronicity as Skydog and Dickey Betts. They had such musical empathy and understanding for one another and never did the legendary guitar ego get in the way of these two and that was what was such a beautiful thing. The Allman Brothers at the Fillmore East I read years ago was voted as the best live album of all time and I would have to agree 100%!

No comparison between Duane and Dickey...IMO!! Not even‼️
