Read Full Bio ↴Formed in 1988, The Almighty are a rock band, from Glasgow Scotland.
The band's music veered between punk and hard rock on albums including 1989's debut 'Blood Fire and Love', 'Soul Destruction (produced by Duran Duran guitarist Andy Taylor),' 'Powertrippin' (which saw Tantrum leave and be replaced by Pete Friesen of Alice Cooper), 'Crank' and 'Just Add Life.' During this time, the band played the Monsters of Rock festival in Donington, England, in 1992 and also played with Metallica at the Milton Keynes Bowl. The Almighty split up in 1996.
In 2000 the band reformed with Nick Parsons on guitar. A second album shortly followed in 2001, Psycho-Narco, with a new bass player Gav Gray replacing long time bassist Floyd London. The band soon disbanded again with vocalist Ricky Warwick pursuing a solo career.
By mid-2005 bassist Floyd London had won an unpublicised fight against Lukemia which brought the band together to play once again. The classic lineup reformed for two Lukemia Research benefit shows in January 2006, which was followed by a Headline appearance at the 2006 Bulldog Bash, then a short 5-date tour at the end of December 2006.
In February 2007 a Greatest Hits CD/DVD Anthology: The Gospel According To... was released with the full support of the band, this was followed in July 2007 with a live DVD of the Glasgow Lukemia Research show from January 2006.
The band have 'left the door open' to the possibility of future shows and recording new material.
In 2010 Ricky Warwick joined Thin Lizzy (renamed to Black Star Riders in 2012).

Almighty might as well be a misinterpretation of a tag - Hiphop group with affiliations to the Wu-Tang Clan. This means your music is tagged wrong. Please, tag your music as ''Almighty'', not "The Almighty", if you feel this is the case.

Out makin' cars pretending how to live
Her virgin fires been kissed so many times
But hay man it's his to be wasted all the time
All the animals come out at night
Snakes and lizards been sleeping in your bed
Hanging out in the dollar hotels
Chorus
Hollywood will never learn
Play with fire and you'll get burned
Joy bang one time
Gettin' high and feeling fine
Joy bang one time
Show me how you lose your mind
All alone, dead in the city
You're doing horse child don't look too pretty
Don't need no money cause it's heaven sent
But you don't tell nobody it ain't cool to pay the rent
One day you'll wake up wasted and done
Look in the mirror and you won't see no one
Just a crazy child who wanted to be free
You did it once but now you won't let it be
Chorus
The lights go down
And there's a haze of love
You tell your lies to dark
Cause it never gets enough
Chorus
The Almighty's song Joy Bang One Time is a dark and gritty portrayal of the underbelly of Hollywood and the dangers of excess. The lyrics describe a world of debauchery, drugs, and lost dreams. The metaphor of a serpent with nowhere to slide suggests a sense of confinement and lack of escape. The line "Out makin' cars pretending how to live" speaks to a sense of artificiality and the futility of trying to find meaning in material possessions.
The lyrics also depict a world of nocturnal creatures, with snakes and lizards crawling in bed and "animals coming out at night." The dollar hotels and spending one's life on the toilet are further examples of the seedy and unglamorous nature of this lifestyle. The chorus warns that Hollywood will never learn and that playing with fire will lead to getting burned. The phrase "Joy Bang One Time" suggests a fleeting pleasure that is not sustainable and ultimately leads to self-destruction.
The final verse shows the consequences of this lifestyle, with the singer waking up "wasted and done" and unable to recognize themselves in the mirror. The line "Just a crazy child who wanted to be free" suggests that the desire for freedom and escape from reality can ultimately lead to one's downfall.
Overall, Joy Bang One Time is a cautionary tale about the dangers of excess and the dark side of Hollywood.
