We felt we had finally captured our sound, but the band was no more. JZ, Mark, and I had already been playing as The GasHounds, so our attention went there and a whole new batch of songs and recordings.
When JZ and I went through all our studio tapes from start to finish (1985-89), we revisited the thought we had long ago- can we capture our essential sound? We feel these recordings present the band as we always felt we should have been on record.
So, ladies and gentlemen, This Is The Alter Boys!

Where Have You Gone
The Alter Boys Lyrics

Deeper emotion I'm not the only one-
So cut the pain until its gone-
Time----where have you gone now,
Seems just like yesterday caught up wit you,
Up with you
So predict my heartache,
Songs of a love gone wrong,
And in the end its tragic,
But so appropriate indeed,
But never the less the ending is fate.
Barely alive----afraid of feelin,
Pick me apart now, find someone else to blame,
Wallow in shame until its gone.
time----where have you gone now,
Seems just like yesterday caught up with you.
As we wait for the next forever,
Perhaps our day will finally find,
And make its heart never surrender,
If they truly want to shine,
You walked out that front door,
Into the back of my mind.
time---where have you gone now,
Seems just like yesterday caught up with you
The Alter Boys's song "Where Have You Gone" is a heartfelt and emotional track that touches on themes of love lost and the passage of time. The opening lines "I got a feeling, deeper emotion I'm not the only one" suggest a sense of shared experience - the feeling of heartbreak and loss is something that is universal and relatable. The second line "So cut the pain until its gone" can be interpreted in a few different ways. It could refer to the coping mechanisms people use to deal with difficult emotions, such as numbing the pain or distracting themselves until they can move on. Alternatively, it could suggest a sense of resignation - the pain will always be there, but it can be managed.
The chorus of the song focuses on the passage of time and the question of where it has gone. The line "Seems just like yesterday caught up with you" suggests a sense of nostalgia or longing for a time that has passed. The song also touches on the theme of fate - the ending is described as tragic but appropriate, suggesting that some things are simply meant to be. The line "If they truly want to shine" hints at the idea of destiny or a higher purpose - perhaps the pain and heartbreak are necessary to find true happiness and fulfillment.
Overall, "Where Have You Gone" is a powerful and emotional track that touches on universal themes of love, loss, and the passage of time. The lyrics capture the complexity and depth of human emotions, and the haunting melodies of the song only serve to enhance its impact.
