Picture You
The Amazing Lyrics

In the cold and green tomorrow
Throws you into this
your archive

If your shapes could sometimes turn to
make you feel at ease
make you mine
If your shapes could sometimes turn to
make you feel at ease
make you smile

And the way you always tell her
shouldn't work inside
I know

Did you always like to dream of
things that could have been
I know I do

Do you find it hard to say words
that could have been of me
I know I do

ooo ooo ooo

hey
do you like to dream of a current
I know I do
hey
do you like to dream of a current

i know i do

Overall Meaning

The lyrics of the song Picture You by The Amazing are poetic and evoke a powerful sense of longing and introspection. The opening verse of the song speaks of a cold and green tomorrow that seems to be throwing the listener into an archive of memories. This could be interpreted as a metaphor for the uncertainty of the future and the desire to hold on to memories of the past. The line "If your shapes could sometimes turn to make you feel at ease" suggests that the listener may be feeling uneasy and seeking solace in familiar shapes or memories from the past.

The chorus repeats the line "If your shapes could sometimes turn to make you feel at ease" and adds the line "make you mine" and "make you smile." This could be interpreted as the listener addressing a loved one, expressing their desire to make them happy and to be with them. The next verse speaks of the listener's understanding of the struggles of the loved one with whom they are speaking, acknowledging that the way they always tell her things shouldn't work inside. This line could suggest that the loved one has difficulty expressing themselves verbally.

The final verse of the song sees the listener questioning themselves, wondering if they too dream of things that could have been. The final lines "hey, do you like to dream of a current, I know I do" suggests a hopefulness and a desire to move forward, even while acknowledging the complexities of the past.

I discovered this song 6 yrs ago driving across the mtns from Kentucky into VA leaving my girlfriend at the time and it was playing on a radio station on a low fm dial and I was instantly taken back to the sounds of my youth in the 70s not sure who but it is a masterpiece of work and I have loved this song ever since and it will always remind me of that trip .. she is gone now but what a memory to have❤️

It’s a shame that not enough people even know of this band.

@djbethell

I prefer it that way.

@georgehenry76

You’re right. And so is the first reply 😂

@corykey9187

If I were a billionaire, I'd drop millions on this band just they can keep making music forever. Something special.

@NodeNomad

I discovered that song by chance as someone had it on the background, then I used Shazam to catch it and saved it. A day later I was watching at this and then discovered the music video footage was familiar to me, I suddenly realised this has been recorded on Dalston, no need even to double check: they are the same streets, the same market, the neighbourhood I lived for 2 years of my life in London and I used to walk everyday. How small is the world !

@AzimuthTao

The live version of this for World Cafe is outstanding.
The drummer tears it up at the end.

@mattjames6447

Thanks to Spotify for chucking this into my feed.
