“Patty Andrews, the lead singer of the Andrews sisters group was born in Mound, Minnesota on February 16, 1918 in a house that occupied the property where The Gillespie Center stands today.
During the 1920’s Laverne, Maxene and Patty Andrews spent their summers in Mound, living with their parents in a house across the street from the grocery store that was owned by Pete and Ed Sollie, bachelor uncles of the three girls. (Today, Green T Accounting occupies the Sollie grocery store building and The Gillespie Center is on the land where the Andrews Sisters’ house once stood.)” - From a commentary by Tom Rockvam that appeared in The Laker Newspaper during 2005.
They started their career as imitators of an earlier successful singing group, the Boswell Sisters. After singing with various dance bands and touring on Vaudeville, they first came to national attention with their recordings and radio broadcasts in 1937. Their music entertained Allied troops worldwide during World War II, sold war bonds, appeared in several films (including a few Abbott and Costello features), and performed for soldiers serving overseas. Their first film with Abbott and Costello, the pre-war comedy Buck Privates, introduced their best-known recording, "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy" which would win Best Song at the Academy Awards.
They also recorded many songs with Bing Crosby, Danny Kaye and other popular artists of the era. Their popularity was such that after the war they discovered that some of their records had actually been smuggled into Germany after the labels had been changed to read "Hitler's Marching Songs."
After a brief hiatus after the war, the sisters regrouped, performing in clubs throughout the United States and Europe. They broke up in 1953, with Patty's choice to go solo. Their last appearance together was in 1962 on The Dean Martin Show. Laverne, who had cancer, retired soon after; she died five years later, in 1967 at the age of 55.
After a long silence, the two surviving sisters had something of a comeback when Bette Midler recorded a cover of their song "Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy." Maxene and Patty appeared both together and separately throughout the 1970s, with Maxene releasing a solo album in 1986. Their most notable comeback; however, was in the Sherman Brothers' nostalgic World War II musical: "Over Here!" which premiered on Broadway at the Shubert Theatre in 1974. The musical featured the two then living sisters (Maxene and Patty) and was written with them in mind for the leads. It launched the careers of many, now notable theater and film icons (John Travolta, Marilu Henner, Ann Reinking, et al). Ironically it was the last major hurrah of the sisters and was cut short due to a frivolous lawsuit initiated by Patty's husband to the show's producers.
Throughout their long career, the sisters had sold over 60 million records. The group was inducted into the Vocal Group Hall of Fame in 1998.
The last of the three sisters Patty Andrews died of natural causes at her home in Northridge, California on January 30, 2013, just 17 days before her 95th birthday. The sisters were interred in the Forest Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Glendale, California, close to their parents.

Hope you're in the mood, because I'm feelin' just right
How's about a corner with a table for two?
Where the music's mellow and some gay rendezvous
There's no chance romancin' with a blue attitude
You've got to do some dancin' to get in the mood
Something swing-a-dilla would be good to my ear
Everybody must agree that dancin' has charms
When you have that certain one you love in your arms
Steppin' out with you will be a sweet interlude
Oh build'er up for that would put me in the mood
In the mood
That's it
I got it
In the mood
Your ear will spot it
In the mood
Oh what a hot hit
Be alive
And get the jive
You've got to learn how
Hep-hep-hep
Hep like a hepper
Pep-pep-pep
Hot as a pepper
Step-step-step
Step like a stepper
From muggin' to huggin'
We're in the mood now
Mr. Watchacallim, All you needed was fun
You can see the wonders that this evening has done
Your feet were so heavy, till they hardly could move
Now they're light as feathers and you're right in the groove
You were only hungry for some musical food
You're positively absolutely in the mood
Sister watchacallim, I'm indebted to you
It all goes to show what good a new hit could do
Never felt so happy and so fully alive
It seems that jammin' jumpin' is a powerful jive
Swing-a-roo has given me a new attitude
My heart is full of rhythm and I'm in the mood
In the mood
That's it
'Cause I got it
And I'm-
In the mood
Your ear will spot it
When you're-
In the mood

And get the jive
You've got to learn how

The Andrews Sisters' song "In the Mood" is a lively swing dance number that celebrates being "in the mood" for love. The lyrics describe the singer's desire for a man with beautiful eyes and lips, and her eagerness to dance and share a moonlit moment with him. The words playfully suggest a desire for physical intimacy, but also underscore the passionate, joyful feeling of being swept up in a romantic mood.
The lyrics use a formal tone with polite phrasing, such as "Darlin', may I intrude?" and "Hope he tells me maybe, what a wing it will be." This gives the song a sense of flirtatiousness and playfulness, as if the singer is both inviting and teasing her potential partner. The repeated phrase "Don't keep me waiting when I'm in the mood" emphasizes the urgency and excitement of the moment, while the swing rhythm and brass instruments create an infectious energy that encourages listeners to dance along.

Who's the lovin' daddy with the beautiful eyes
Who is the attractive man catching my eye?
What a pair o' lips, I'd like to try 'em for size
His lips look kissable, I wonder how they would feel?
I'll just tell him, "Baby, won't you swing it with me"
I'll ask him politely to dance with me.
Hope he tells me maybe, what a wing it will be
I hope he agrees to dance with me, it would be wonderful.
So, I said politely "Darlin' may I intrude"
I asked him politely if I could interrupt him for a dance.
He said "Don't keep me waitin' when I'm in the mood"
He told me not to waste his time if he feels like dancing.
First I held him lightly and we started to dance
We began by dancing closely but not too intimately.
Then I held him tightly what a dreamy romance
We started dancing closely and romantically.
And I said "Hey, baby, it's a quarter to three
I noticed the time was getting late.
There's a mess of moonlight, won't-cha share it with me"
I suggested that we enjoy the moonlight together.
"Well" he answered "Baby, don't-cha know that it's rude
He playfully scolded me for being late to ask.
To keep my two lips waitin' when they're in the mood"
He wanted me to know that he was ready to kiss me.
In the mood, that's what he told me
He let me know that he was in the mood to dance and to kiss.
In the mood, and when he told me
When he mentioned it, I knew I was also in the mood.
In the mood, my heart was skippin'
I could feel my heart racing when I realized our mutual desire.
It didn't take me long to say "I'm in the mood now"
I let him know that I was also ready to dance and to kiss.
In the mood for all his kissin'
I was in the mood to kiss him passionately.
In the mood his crazy lovin'
I was in the mood to enjoy his wild and exciting affection.
In the mood what I was missin'
I realized that my life was incomplete without him.

I met two of these gals at a club called Martini's in San Antonio back in the late 70's. The guy that owned the club had been a big shot in Military clubs back in the 50's and they came in to visit with Shady. I was honored to meet them.
