You Got Me Runnin'

(Brewster-Neeson-Brewster)

You got me runnin', looks like I'm losing again,
feels like I'm losing a friend,
you got me runnin', you got me runnin'
I'm on a wire, now you're turning to ice,
yes I'm learning the price, but I'm on fire,
you got me runnin'

Yesterday I bought you flowers, and in the night I watch them die,
today the flower lady is gone, I woke up alone and I cried,
you took me for a ride.

This girl's a thriller, dressed like a virgin in white,

only saw you at night, you're such a killer,
you got me runnin'

Overall Meaning

The Angels' masterpiece "You Got Me Runnin'" tells the story of a desperate man who is running after a girl who's been playing games with him. The lyrics convey a sense of defeat and loss as the singer realizes he's losing his grip on her, and she's no longer the friend he thought she was. He's on a wire, being pushed and pulled in different directions, but he's learning the price of being in love with someone who doesn't value him as much as he values her.

The first verse sets the scene for the song, with the singer expressing his sense of defeat and loss. He's lost a friend and the girl he thought he knew is no longer an ally. The chorus, which is repeated throughout the song, emphasizes his sense of desperation and powerlessness. He's running after a girl who's playing games with him, and he feels like he's losing again.

The second verse is more revealing of the singer's character. He's willing to go the extra mile to please this girl, and he's even bought her flowers. But the flowers have died, and the girl is gone. He's alone, and he's crying. He's been taken for a ride, but he's still willing to do almost anything to be with her.

In conclusion, the Angels' "You Got Me Runnin'" is a powerful and emotional song about the highs and lows of love. It's a story many can relate to, and it's a testament to the talent and creativity of The Angels.

Have just been listening to this (vinyl) album again after so many years. There are some real good songs on it like this one that I had completely forgot about. It really wasn't that big of a jump to Face to Face after all.

+Foxswoop I agree, this was a good precursor to what was to come, still like the album, pretty raw  version of  "Am I ever going to see your face again".

Aus80sRockRadio

Yes it's a great LP indeed. Nowhere near a rock heavy as Face to Face/No Exit.
