The Apples in Stereo currently consist of Robert Schneider (vocals, guitar), Eric Allen (bass), John Hill (rhythm guitar), John Ferguson (keyboards) and John Dufilho. Schneider writes the most of the band's music and lyrics. Their debut release was 1995's Fun Trick Noisemaker (with Jim McIntyre on bass).
Longtime drummer Hilarie Sydney left the band in 2006, performing her last show at the Athens Popfestival.
Robert Schneider has side projects: Marbles, Ulysses, Thee American Revolution and a new kids music project under the name Robbert Bobbert & The Bubble Machine. He does a lot of commercial composition and film score work.
John Hill also plays guitar in Dressy Bessy.
Bill Doss, who had been the band's keyboardist since 2007, died on July 30, 2012. Doss was also the singer, songwriter and guitarist for The Olivia Tremor Control, the sole member of The Sunshine Fix, and an original member of the Elephant 6 collective.
One of their most popular songs, "Signal In The Sky," was created for and featured in episode 46 of The Powerpuff Girls.
They are best known for their bright, catchy lyrics and 60s pop/rock sound that often provokes comparisons to The Beatles, ELO and The Beach Boys.
Their major influences include The Velvet Underground and The Beach Boys.

You feeling sociable
Silver stars in your eyes in your eye
And you feeling emotional
And you don't even know my name
And you know every constellation
Simple lives we once left behind
Secret lives we left lived inside
We're going backwards now
And you don't even know my name
And I know every constellation
Story override story override
Do you know the reason to your mind
Story overtime story overtime
So you know the season to your mind
We're going backwards now
Silver stars in your hand in your hand
I know its seasonal
Several times I have heard your demand
You're so unreasonable
And you know even know my name
And I know every constellation
Story override story override
Do you know the reason to your mind
Story overtime story overtime
Do you know the season to your mind
And you don't even know my name
And i know every constellation
Story override story override
Do you know the reason to your mind
Story overtime story overtime
Do you know the season to your mind
Story override story override
Do you know the reason to your mind
Story overtime story overtime
Do you know the season to your mind
The Apples in Stereo's song "7 Stars" seems to juxtapose the grandeur of the universe with the smallness of human interaction. The song is structured around a set of repeated lines, which sets up an interesting contrast between the grand cosmic scale of the stars and constellations that are said to be known by the singer and the more petty human concerns of feeling sociable or emotional. The repeated line "and you don't even know my name" suggests a feeling of disconnect between the human characters in the song, despite the vast universe that surrounds them.
The chorus of the song, with its repeated phrase "story override," seems to further emphasize this theme of disconnect and confusion. It feels like the characters are struggling to make sense of their lives, and the competing "stories" that dominate their minds make it difficult for them to connect with each other. This sense of confusion is reinforced by the bridge, which asks "Do you know the reason to your mind? Do you know the season to your mind?"
Overall, "7 Stars" seems to be exploring the tension that exists between our human concerns and the vast, mysterious universe that surrounds us. It suggests that, despite our relentless attempts to understand the universe and all its mysteries, we are often no closer to understanding ourselves or each other.
