Dance Floor
The Apples in Stereo Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I wanna feel that
I wanna feel that
That my future's still coming
I walk into the night
Aim for the city lights
But my mind is still running

I can see your face again
I can see my old friends
In my sweet imagination (sweet imagination)
I walk into the street
Aim for the city beat
But my mind is still racing

The dance floor
Isn't there no more
But my body's still moving
Tell me do you know
Where are we to go
When our worlds are so confusing?

Ooh I wanna go there
Sensations fill the air
In my sweet recollection (sweet recollection)
Ooh I see a for-sale sign
Where we made up our minds
To be more than just good friends

The dance floor
Isn't there no more
But my body's still moving
Tell me do you know
Where are we to go
When our worlds are so confusing?

You know the dance floor
Isn't there no more
But my body's still moving
Tell me do you know
Where are we to go
When our worlds are so confusing?

You know the dance floor
Isn't there no more
You know the dance floor
Isn't there no more

When our world is so confusing
When our world is so confusing
When our world is so confusing
When our world is so confusing

When our world is so confusing
When our world is so confusing
When our world is so confusing
When our world is so confusing

I walk into the night
Aim for the city lights
But my mind is still running
I wanna feel that
I wanna feel that
That my future's still coming

The dance floor
Isn't there no more
But my body's still moving
Tell me do you know
Where are we to go
When our worlds are so confusing?

You know the dance floor
Isn't there no more
But my body's still moving
Tell me do you know
Where are we to go
When our worlds are so confusing?

You know the dance floor
Isn't there no more
You know the dance floor
Isn't there no more
You know the dance floor
Isn't there no more

You know the dance floor
Isn't there no more

Overall Meaning

The Apples in Stereo’s song "Dance Floor" could be interpreted as a contemplative song about the idea of growing up and the nostalgia that ensues. The lyrics convey the idea of feeling lost and unsure of what the future holds despite having goals and dreams. The singer seeks comfort and hope from past memories, especially those associated with the dance floor.

The image of the dance floor symbolizes a time when everything seemed simpler and more carefree. However, as the chorus repeats, "the dance floor isn't there no more," indicating that the singer's perception of the world has shifted and the innocence of youth has been lost. The lyrics suggest that despite the confusion, "my body's still moving," indicating that the need for movement and rhythm still persists, providing a sense of continuity that can be found in music.

In conclusion, "Dance Floor" by The Apples in Stereo is a brilliant representation of how music can be used as a tool to reminisce about old times, provide solace for the present, and offer hope for the future.

Welp. So... I'm 12 years late. But I figured if anyone is behind this account, they might care to hear from me. I want to thank y'all because I was at a very, very low point.
I was having panic attacks and thinking I was going to die and suddenly remembered that I liked one song from this band.
I saw "Dance Floor" and "Energy" and was struck by how much I resonated with the entirety of the production.
It brought a lot of comfort but also a bit of challenge and was precisely what I needed.
Regardless of my own bias, your work is so intelligent and has been formative. I digress. It's cliche, but I want to thank all of you (and those who are no longer with us) for bringing this all into existence.

Thank you so much, Tracer. This means a lot to me as the person who wrote the song. I am sorry to hear about your panic attacks and your low point. Music helps me to get through dark periods too, which is one of the reasons I am inspired to make it.

@Robert Schneider wow, it's like you and stuff. Hey, I discovered you guys about 2 years ago and we're so excited to see your next upcoming concert, but to my dismay, I found that you're beautiful songs are in your past,. I would have loved to have seen AIS live but at the time I was too busy with working 8 days a week to find good culture. I have now and your songs, especially energy and dream about the future are like musical Prayers for me. Thanks 🙏

@FuriousSpoon

Love this song, and I would love to see these guys make more music.

@foxlimey

He said he was making a new album, but who knows when it will be out, he only recently finished grad school.

@Dex000x

Happy to see this band still going after 20+ years.

@sovlur

Shouts out to the The Flying Saucer in downtown Little Rock AR. I heard this song first in their chill basement. #danthemanplaylists
