The Apples in Stereo currently consist of Robert Schneider (vocals, guitar), Eric Allen (bass), John Hill (rhythm guitar), John Ferguson (keyboards) and John Dufilho. Schneider writes the most of the band's music and lyrics. Their debut release was 1995's Fun Trick Noisemaker (with Jim McIntyre on bass).
Longtime drummer Hilarie Sydney left the band in 2006, performing her last show at the Athens Popfestival.

They think that you're nuts
For hanging out with me yeah
'cause I don't have a pedigree
They think that I'm mean
Just because I make a scene
It's their society yeah
You know, that's something I do once in a while
You know, that's something I do to make you smile
Your friends think it's lame
That you don't play the game
They're gonna look back one day
And see that you put them to shame
They think it's uncool
That we dropped out of school
We're gonna go back someday
For now we wanna play the fool
They think they're better than that
They think they're better than that
They think they're better than that, girl
The Apples in Stereo's song "That's Something I Do" is a bright, upbeat song that addresses the theme of outsidership. The first verse of the song outlines how the singer's significant other's friends dislike him and think he's not good enough for her. He is criticized for not having the same status or pedigree as they do. In the second verse, the friends are made aware that the singer and his partner have dropped out of school, which they believe to be uncool. However, despite their criticisms, the singer acknowledges that he makes his partner happy in his own unique way and stands up for himself.
The chorus of the song expresses that the singer's occasional reckless behavior is just something he does to make his partner smile, which is an important value to him. The song highlights how sometimes unconventional, unexpected actions that break with the norm and are deemed uncool by others can still bring joy and happiness to people's lives. The final line of the song repeats the phrase, "They think they're better than that, girl," which speaks to an underdog mentality and defiance against those who believe they are superior.
Overall, "That's Something I Do" is a fun, lighthearted song with a deeper message about individuality and acceptance. It encourages listeners to embrace their uniqueness and not conform to societal expectations.
