Fall: War
The Arcadian Wild Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

I heard a second voice
It hissed another choice and woke my lust

The first step of my descent
I lost my innocence, misplaced my trust

We were deceived
We sank our teeth into a lie

How could we count the cost?
We sold ourselves and what we bought wasn’t worth the price

You gave me all you love
I thought there was more
Chaos, she politely knocked
So I opened the door

I saw my naked form
In a moment shame was born; I hid my face

You came back down to earth
And found I had cursed the world you made

You gave me all you love, but I thought there was more
Chaos, she politely knocked, so I opened the door

I looked from left to right for somebody to blame
I believed a viper and grew a pair of fangs

Overall Meaning

The lyrics to The Arcadian Wild's song "Fall" is a story of the fall from grace of a couple who were deceived and sold themselves into something that wasn't worth the price. It begins with the realization that there was a second voice that hissed another choice, awakening lust and leading to the first step of descent. The singer lost their innocence and misplaced trust. The couple believed in a lie and sank their teeth into it, not counting the cost. The chorus features the regret of the singer, realizing that they thought there was more to love but chaos intervened, resulting in shame and hiding the face.

The second half of the song has the couple dealing with the aftermath of their mistake. The singer sees their naked form and feels shame, and the other person finds that their world has been cursed by the mistake. The singer believed a viper and grew a pair of fangs, or essentially, became part of the deception, to begin with. The lyrics are a warning of how easily we can be swayed by a second voice or a lie and be led down a destructive path.

Good question. Guitar and mandolin came first, back when we started writing these songs something like 5 years ago. Then when we decided to actually record them, and the whole band got together and sort of re-arranged them, adding fiddle and bass.
