Spring: Wake
The Arcadian Wild Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Wake up, sleepyhead
I pulled you out from the flowerbed
My breath fills your lungs
I’ll give this garden to my favorite son

You are prince of all you see
I’d like us to care for it together
You just look so much like me
My affections for you have no measure

You are clothed in brilliance
Naked as you came
Because you bear my likeness
Blessed be your name

Walk with me, my child
We’ll give names to all creatures wild
I’ll strengthen your hands
Bless and be blessed by this land

You are prince of all you see
I’d like us to care for it together
You just look so much like me
My affections for you have no measure

You are my begotten
The one I love

Today I am your father
Our story’s just begun

Overall Meaning

The Arcadian Wild’s song Spring: Wake is a beautiful representation of the relationship between God and man. In the lyrics, the father wakes up his child from sleep to show him the beauty of the world that he has created for him. The child is compared to a prince, clothed in brilliance, and naked as he came, evoking the image of Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden. As they walk together, the father blesses his child with the land and strengthens his hands to care for it. The love between the two is evident, and the father acknowledges that his child looks so much like him, indicating that he sees himself in his child.

The song is a reminder of God’s love for man and his desire for man to take care of the world that he has created. It portrays the father’s love as unconditional, stating that his affections for his child have no measure. The father chooses to involve his child in the process of caring for the world, showing that he trusts him and believes in him. The song also emphasizes the importance of the relationship between man and nature and the need for man to take responsibility for the world.

Agreed!

Principium is nothing short of a masterpiece. Musically breathtaking, lyrically brilliant—taking the familiar story of Genesis 2 and 3 and retelling it in a poetically gorgeous way… I’ve never heard anything quite like it

Hey everyone, thanks for watching! Be sure to check out the "Summer: Walk", "Fall: War", and "Winter: Will" music videos. "Spring: Wake" is just part of the story!

Their voices and tone on their instruments are just so pure and effortless. UGH. 10/10

Just wanted to let y'all know that I really enjoy this quartet, even as a non-religious person. I love when biblical story gets looked at from new perspectives, and when it’s used as a way to help us connect with out humanity instead of driving us away from it. Awesome stuff.
