Yessss. Fisty Bois.

Edit: I get it now! I finally get Sigismund and the Black Templars! I understand why they're so angry and pious. Slight spoilers below.

When Sigismund heeded the words of the prophet Keeler and decided to stay on Terra, and when he confessed this to Dorn and Dorn viewed this as an unforgivable failure, this broke Sigismund. He was already furious in disposition and unrelenting on the battlefield, but Rogal Dorn actually shouted at him and said Sigismund was no longer his son. Rogal Dorn almost NEVER shouts, at least not in anger. And being disowned like that? By the only father he truly knows and remembers? Being condemned to keep his failure a secret and to continue on as First Captain, hiding his shame and suffering in silence? That broke the man. It's no wonder when the Black Templars where founded he decided to take them on an un-ending crusade across the galaxy to slaughter the enemies of the Imperium on a massive scale. It's not a glorious crusade of retribution. Not really, even though all the Black Templars think it is. It's a penitent crusade. A burden taken up in an attempt to at least slightly make up for his weakness.

Of course it's not actually weakness, his decision. It was logical. Necessary, even. His presence at the Siege of Terra and him taking up the role of Emperor's Champion was absolutely vital to the battle. Few others could have gone toe-to-toe with the champions of the traitor legions and come out on top. Had he not been there, it's very possible Horus could have decided against lowering the shields of the Vengeful Spirit and forcing a confrontation between himself and the Emperor. Had the attrition not been so great, he might have waited until the Palace had all but fallen and simply fought the Emperor in the very throne room. Keeler's words where true, though they likely did come from psychic visions. Rogal Dorn should have recognized that despite the reprehensible side of psyker abilities, they are often very useful tools.

Dorn disowning Sigismund is one of my favorite passages, very powerful.

Really well narrated! In some ways it's better than some of the professional Audible guys as you put so much meaning into it. Is this also available on Podcast format?
