Today I'll Die
The Autumn Film Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Its hard to keep the ones we love
The words we speak are arrows
To our hearts Our fragile hearts

The music plays inside my head
Of what you said to keep you
It was four words then four more words
Im on your side so today ill die

I wrote it down for you to keep
Will you take the message
From my heart my fragile heart
Im on your side im on your side
So today ill die

Im sorry for the way i am
Seeing from the way you are
I hope you can hear
what I said I said
Im on your side

Im on your side
So today Ill die

Overall Meaning

In "Today I'll Die", The Autumn Film captures the pain and struggle of holding on to loved ones. The first verse sets the mood for the rest of the song, as the singer expresses the difficulty that comes with keeping those we love. Words, though seemingly insignificant, can pierce the depths of our hearts and cause magnanimous pain. The combination of the singer's vocal tone and the delicate melody convey a sense of fragility that accompanies our human hearts. The line "Our fragile hearts" encapsulates this feeling perfectly, emphasizing not just the vulnerability we possess but also the extent to which we can be impacted by those around us.

The second verse tells a story of longing, as the singer plays the words of their loved one over and over again in their head. The repetition of the phrase "four words then four more words" creates a sense of rhythm, a style that suits the musical genre well. The singer's willingness to die - not literally- but to put it all on the line, to offer themselves entirely to their loved one, is what makes the song special. This is love in its purest form, a selflessness that isn't often seen in our world today. When the singer says, "I'm on your side", it's almost a promise, a solemn pledge to be there for their loved one - no matter what. When they say, "today I'll die", it's as if they're putting everything they have into the relationship, living each day as it comes, vulnerable and open to the world.

In the final verse, the singer acknowledges their faults and begs for forgiveness. It's a realization that we are all human, prone to faults and missteps, but it didn't stop them from offering their hearts entirely to their loved ones. The song's final line, "So today, I'll die", is a fitting end to an emotional track. It's a statement of complete surrender to the relationship, a vow to give all they have to offer, even if it means putting themselves in harm's way. The Autumn Film has created a beautiful masterpiece for those who are willing to give their all for love.

I feel bad for Rebecca but also for Hannah. As a child, I grew up with anger issues and neglect, I’ve been in similar situations like this with my siblings and I was always guilty for it and I didn’t know what I was doing. Hannah in this scene was very relatable 🤍
