All Your Life
The Band Perry Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Would you walk to the edge of the ocean?
Just to fill my jar with sand?
Just in case I get the notion,
To let it run through my hands.
Let it run through my hands.

I don't want the whole world,
The sun, the moon and all their light.
I just wanna be the only girl,
You love all your life.
You love all your life.

Would you catch a couple thousand fireflies?
Yeah, and put 'em in a lamp to light my world.
All dressed up in a tux and bowtie.
Hand Delivered to a lonely girl.
To a lonely lonely girl

I don't want the whole world,
The sun, the moon and all their light.
I just wanna be the only girl,
You love all your life.
You love all your life

Lately I've been writing desperate love songs.
I mostly sing them to the wall.
You could be the center piece of my obsession
If you would notice me,
Yeah, ooh yeah

Well I don't want the whole world, no
The sun, the moon and all their light.
I just wanna be the only girl,
You love all your life.
You love all your life

You love all your life, life, yeah.

Overall Meaning

The Band Perry's song "All Your Life" is a sweet and romantic tune about a girl who just wants to be loved by the person she cares about all her life. The song is written in the form of a series of questions, each one asking if the love interest would do something for her. She asks if he would walk to the edge of the ocean to fill her jar with sand, catching fireflies for her, and delivering them to her as a symbol of his love. The girl emphasizes that she doesn't want the whole world or all the material possessions that come with it, but just wants to be the only girl that her love interest loves all his life. The final verse of the song speaks of the girl's obsession with writing love songs that only the wall hears. She hopes that the person she cares about will notice her and be the center of her affection.

The song evokes an innocent and simplistic romanticism that emphasizes the importance of appreciating the small things in life. The girl in the song is not asking for grand gestures, but simple acts that prove his love for her. She wants to be the only girl in his life, emphasizing the importance of dedicated love that lasts a lifetime.

I love love love their music videos. I'm not sure if they plan them or have them written, but either way they are brilliant. So creative and beautiful. I adore that at the end of this one she has the box with "the sun", "the moon", and "all their light" but not him. It's tragic but also a wonderful way to illustrate the subtleties of the song.
