This song reminds me of my mom. She'd wake up at 7:15 am every morning and immediately run the washing machine. Then, she would get dressed in the bathroom. After that, she made breakfast. She'd serve toast, fruit, and ham. She'd boil eggs for 7 minutes, unless she decided to fry them instead. Finally, she would make roasted broccoli to top it off. Once everything was prepared, she'd give our family a good morning kiss. By this time the washing machine would be done and she'd put the laundry to dry, before going to the bus stop. She'd catch the bus at 8:06 am to go to the airport where she worked at a duty-free store. When she'd get at the bus stop, a boy living near us would always appear out of nowhere and offer to carry her things. When it rained, somebody else would always come and walk her to the stop under their umbrella. All along the way, they'd have fun little chats. It was because all of my neighbours respected my mother, and they all really cared for her.

I've never been so happy in my entire life. It's the most perfect and beautiful karma. I had an old roommate who loves the Beach Boys, but she despised JJBA. I wish I could personally shake Araki's hand and thank him for the most absolutely perfect indirect vengeance that I could have never devised on my own. The REAL story behind this recording is, they were in the studio recording some other songs for the album. They were trying to come up with another song when Dean, from Jan & Dean, walked into their studio. Jan & Dean were recording down the hall and they got into a heated discussion about how the song was going that they were recording. Dean walked out and knew the Beach Boys were also in the studio, so he went in their studio. The Beach Boys were horsing around with "Barbara Ann" and Dean joined in to do some of his great high falsettos. Yes, they were all just playing around and never thought anything of it, but when the tape, in those days everything was on tape, was played back it sounded great. The Beach Boys decided to put it on the album. The rest is history.

If you ever find one of the original 45's you will hear Mike Love saying "Thanks Dean" at the very end of the song. That was when Dean had to go back to his studio.

You may wonder how I know this. Well, it's in a few published articles and interviews, but to tell the truth, I was there when it all happened. My older brother knew Dean and he and I were in the studio watching Jan & Dean record. Now at 78 years old, I can still recall every minute of that session.

This is actually one of the first songs I remember ever hearing. My mom tried to get me hooked on oldies from my youngest years. My Auntie Barbara just passed away. March 30, 2022, 6 months after my dad, her brother, passed away. Her name was Barbara Ann. I'll always remember this song. I had just bought the Beachboys new album and the main and catchiest song was Barbara Ann. I was 16 when one night I felt really ill. I had a high temperature and fever and must have picked up some kind of virus. My mother said that I kept on trying to sing "Barbara Ann" in my deliriousness. She was very concerned and when I finally recovered she kept on asking me if I had a new girlfriend named Barbara Ann!

This song came about when the engineers at the recording studio wanted to test some new sound equipment and the Beach Boys did this virtual acapella version of the '50's oldie. Thus, a "Testing 1-2-3" sound check became a Top Ten hit!

God, this makes me feel nostalgic. :) I remember, when I was little, I loved the Beach Boys so much, I'd throw a tantrum in the car if my parents weren't playing them. xD

My dad just told me the first time he saw the beach was the year this came out in 65 when he was 4 and was still living in mexico. As they drove up the hill and got to the top, this song played and he saw the waves crash for the first time as they drove down to Guaymas. It was mesmerizing and 55 years later he still loves the beach. Now I’m getting nostalgic for shit that never even happened 😂
