Caroline No
The Beach Boys Lyrics

Where did your long hair go
Where is the girl I used to know
How could you lose that happy glow
Oh, Caroline no

Who took that look away
I remember how you used to say
You'd never change, but that's not true
Oh, Caroline you
Break my heart
I want to go and cry
It's so sad to watch a sweet thing die
Oh, Caroline why

Could I ever find in you again
The things that made me love you so much then
Could we ever bring 'em back once they have gone
Oh, Caroline no

@Stephanie Walter Listen Steph; You want to know some FACTS that I personally know , Brian wanted to call this Carol , I know. Because Carol in H.S. would never have the feelings that Brian had for her. Marilyn , his wife since Dec
7th 1964, which Brian always told me was going to be bad luck because the Japanese attacked Pearl Harbor on Dec.7th 1941, which started WWII for the U.S. and Brian was superstitious about EVERYTHING. By the way THEY met in 1962 on Sunset Strip at Pandora's Box.
Marilyn was 15 , Brian 20. They played that night at this LITTLE club. Marilyn was always jealous because Brian wrote and played songs about past girl friends.
I'm surprised they stayed married til 1979. Anyway , Carol had cut her hair not too long after H.S. that bothered Brian even though they weren't together. That's why he wrote into the song " where did your long hair go." Brian was obsessed with girls with long hair and thought without it there was something missing with their femininity. I remember Marilyn being so upset with Brian because she got her hair cut without asking him first, he told me " she doesn't even look like the same girl." Brian had alot of pictures of Carol from H.S. and kept them hid from Marilyn. He showed me but said " don't ever tell Marilyn about them." To my knowledge he never did. Marilyn got her hair cut during the time this song was written. Originally she thought he was writing about her. It didn't take long for her to realize it wasn't , it was about Carol. Marilyn Rovell was her maiden name. Now it's Marilyn Rutherford. She had a Girl Group called the Honeys in the late sixtys. Again in 1983-" Ecstasy" Their daughters have their own thing now.
Just to let you know how I was introduced originally. I was born in Paris France and into the "Cartier family" As such I was born with a golden spoon in my ass. I'm not exactly sure of what you know about Cartier Jewelry in Paris or that we own 8 Cartiers Jewelry Stores in Paris now , 272 world-wide. The finest Jewelry in the world , bar none. We just built a beautiful Art Museum here in Paris. You can Google it , also our 8 stores here. If you look at the addresses, one of the stores is located at 13 Rue de la Paix. I have a home directly across the Rue. At 16 I married my wife Bridgette that we went to private school for fortunate kids. I really don't know another English word that fits. After both skipping a grade I asked her to marry me since we were boyfriend and girlfriend since 13. We married one month later at 16. My family set us both up for life financially. After a honeymoon on some little Island off the coast of Greece , that my family paid for ,we decided to leave France and move to the U.S. Our families weren't thrilled about it , but we both knew that we were set financially for life, her family was extremely wealthy also.
We flew from Paris to N.Y. to L.A. where after speaking with a real estate agent , we ended up in Malibu Ca. We received U.S. Citizenship. Not to make out of this Steph. ( if you don't mind me calling you)
One day on the beach in Malibu , still 16, both of us. I was trying my best to learn how to surf , which I was never great at. I came back into the beach and there stood my beautiful bikini clad wife , that still spoke broken English , just like myself , and she was talking to some guy. He was surprised when I walked up to Bridgette with a surfboard. I found out later he was trying his best to pick up my wife Bridgette , and honestly I couldn't blame him, she was there my herself and was really a beautiful girl. So when he realized we were together instantly because of our heavy French accents.
He turned to me and introduced himself as Dennis Wilson. All three of us sat down on the Beach and told Dennis that we really didn't know anybody not only here in Malibu but in the whole U.S. He told us he wasn't from Malibu but Hawthorne Ca. Nowhere near the beach, but liked to surf ( the only one of the Wilson boys that could). He finally asked us if we'd like to go to a big party that night in Hawthorne and there are some people he'd like to introduce us to. ( the only reason for this was because I was a " Cartier" and he still had this thing for my beautiful wife , I found our later.
We all went down to our new place on the beach that Dennis absolutely loved saying " I'd give anything to live here."
Bridgette and I got dressed while Dennis was having his first Courvoisier Cognac. I remember " wow this stuff is good , while trying to catch his breath. " I just bought my first Corvette at 16. We follow Dennis for what felt forever to his families home. That's when I met Brian and Carl and mom and dad for the first time. Dennis introduced us as Mr. Andre Cartier and Mrs.Bridgette Cartier of the Cartier family in Paris. We were only 16.
His family was well aware of Cartiers of Paris and that we could buy and own them if they were selling. I think Mr Wilson thought of us as potential investors to his Group of Beach Boys that could always use more money then.
Who would ever have known of their success then Steph ?? Dennis continued to hit on Bridgette every chance he had.
It didn't matter to me , I knew she loved me ever since we were 13 and spent every day of her life letting me know until her untimely death at 26 in an Auto accident with a taxi driver. Our , than just my relationship with all the Wilson's first Dennis drown at 38 , Carl at 51 from lung cancer and Brian well Brian had his problems. We all stayed extremely close friends. Dennis came to Paris and I introduced him to both of our families and had a great time showing him around Paris. Brian still let's me know he thinks of me and will never never forget the day he met the teenage married Cartier couple from Paris. Believe me Brian NEVER forgot anything.
Sorry for writing a book to you Steph but I thought I needed to tell you why I know so much about the Beach Boys and a life very few ever experience. I'll be more than happy to answer any questions you might have if I can. Again I apologize for my lengthy reply.
Andre Cartier. 🎆🗼🎆🗼🎆.

We’re in the same boat. I hope you’ll find your smile, Caroline.

Mike Love said, "Only the ears of a dog" would listen to this album. Thus the name "Pet Sounds" and the sound of Brian's dog at the end of the song. I'm so glad Brian stood by his music. Mike Love is still a jerk to this day, imo.

Dan Clarke

@Alamo James I love beach boys today. Also beach boys party is criminally underrated

Dan Clarke

I think he meant only the ears of a dog could pick up on all the instrumentation

Ian Thirkill

If i was Brian Wilson i would have Mike Love's face on my toilet paper
