Do It Again
The Beach Boys Lyrics

It's automatic when I
Talk with old friends
The conversation turns to
Girls we knew when
Their hair was soft and long
And the beach was the place to go

Suntanned bodies and
Waves of sunshine
The California girls and a
Beautiful coastline
Warmed up weather
Let's get together and do it again

With a girl the lonely sea looks good
Makes your night times warm and out of sight

Been so long, long, long, long
Been, been, been, been, been
Been, been, been, been, been

Been so long

Hey now, hey now, hey now, hey now, hey now
Hey now, hey now, hey now, hey now, hey now
Hey now, hey now

Well I've been thinking 'bout
All the places we've surfed and danced and
All the faces we've missed so let's get
Back together and do it again

Damn I love that distorted drum track. Hard to believe this was done in 1968.

@Squirrel Guy I'm not familiar with drum distortion. Can you explain it more?

@J. R. i don't think so. i had this when i was a kid in the 70's and the distorted drum was there, but i always thought it was a guitar.

i've always loved that opening. i didn't know it was a drum track though!

During the mixdown, engineer Stephen Desper came up with the drum effect heard at the beginning of the track. He explained that he had "commissioned Philips, in Holland, to build two tape delay units for use on the road (to double live vocals). he moved four of the Philips PB heads very close together so that one drum strike was repeated four times about 10 milliseconds apart, and blended it with the original to give the effect you hear.". Drums were played by Dennis Wilson and session musician John Guerin; tambourine and wood blocks were also played by Guerin

Jake Zywek

@jack freeman He also worked out every Bach Violin Sonata by ear, transcribed it backwards, and used the music to create the melodies to his songs. The guy was very talented.

When this tragic world crisis ends let's get back together & do it again.

@Peter Callaghan I fear you could be right, unless we don't let it happen.
