Formed in Hawthorne, California in 1961, the original group comprised singer-musician-composer and bandleader Brian Wilson, his brothers Carl Wilson and Dennis Wilson, their cousin Mike Love, and friend Al Jardine. Wilson neighbor David Marks appeared on their first four albums and was a member from 1962 to 1963 as a temporary replacement for Jardine, who had left the group to pursue a career in dentistry.
On their first few studio albums, the group primarily played surf music, but this changed after 1964 as their songs became more sophisticated and autobiographical. The 1965 album Today! particularly represented this shift in sound. Bruce Johnston joined the group that same year. Session drummer Hal Blaine is quoted: "We all studied in conservatories; we were trained musicians. We thought it was a fluke at first, but then we realized Brian was writing these incredible songs. This was not just a young kid writing about high school and surfing."
Following their most esteemed work, Pet Sounds (1966), the band became symbols of psychedelic counterculture. The highly anticipated follow-up, Smile, was left unfinished, and Brian soon relinquished his creative hold on the group. A trilogy of lo-fi releases followed: Smiley Smile (1967), Wild Honey (1967), and Friends (1968). Brian would not be credited as a primary composer for any Beach Boys album until 1977's Love You, an album on the fringe of synth-pop, new wave, and punk.
In Brian's absence, the Beach Boys still managed to release music that was regarded favorably by fans and critics despite poor sales: Sunflower (1970) and Surf's Up (1971). South African musicians Blondie Chaplin and Ricky Fataar played and sang with the band on the next two albums: Carl & the Passions - So Tough (1972), and Holland (1973).
Many changes in both musical style and personnel have occurred in their sometimes-stormy career: Brian Wilson's mental illness and drug addiction; the deaths of Dennis Wilson in 1983 and Carl Wilson in 1998; and continuing legal battles among surviving members of the group. With the release of 1974's Endless Summer they became a more popular touring act, playing their greatest hits. They have recorded 36 Billboard Top 40 hits (including four number-one singles), have had over 100 million sales, and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988.

Here She Comes
The Beach Boys Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
Breathing life in to my thoughts
There she goes
Leaves a portrait in my soul
Rolling in madness
She does everything to me
Wherever she goes you know the devil dances
And the gods lay down in defeat
Am I living
Crazy woman can't you see
That I'm giving
Giving to you can you dig
Me
I want to live
To learn the truth before my door
Don't you know
I'm a simple man for all I know
This might be the hard way
But it's easier for me
To take all the changes that are always amazin'
But to never let 'em fence me in
Am I living
Crazy woman can't you see
That I'm giving
Giving to you can you dig
Me
Me I'm only searchin' for the things I really need
I can't rely on anyone to sow and grow my seeds
I started out on empty promise I was living on my dreams
I was a runaway son and now I'm up out of the water
And I can barely barely breathe
Rolling down the road
Rolling down the road
Rolling down the road
Rolling down the road
Rolling down the road
Listen listen
Hear the music play
Listen listen
Hear the music play yeah
Listen listen
Hear the music play
Listen listen
Hear the music play
Am I living
Crazy woman can't you see
That I'm giving
Giving to you can you dig
Me
The Beach Boys's song Here She Comes is a reflection of the singer's intense feelings for the woman in question. The opening lines "Here she comes, breathing life into my thoughts, there she goes, leaves a portrait in my soul" highlight the impact she has on him. He is consumed by her, even to the point of madness, and wherever she goes, he feels like he is in the presence of both the devil and the gods. Although he questions his sanity, he cannot help but feel deeply connected to her.
The singer acknowledges that he is a simple man, and his pursuit of the truth may not be easy, but it is necessary. He has learned from his past mistakes and is willing to take risks and embrace change. He emphasizes that he is only pursuing the things he really needs and cannot rely on anyone else to achieve them for him. The final lines "Rolling down the road, listen listen hear the music play" suggest that he is moving forward, regardless of what challenges he may face.
Overall, the song seems to be about the overwhelming power of love and the need to follow one's heart, even if it means taking the hard road.

Aquí viene ella
Insufr vida a mis pensamientos
Ahí va ella
Deja un retrato en mi alma
Rodando en la locura
Ella me lo hace todo
Dondequiera que vaya, sabes que el diablo baila
Y los dioses se tumban en la derrota
¿Estoy viviendo?
Mujer loca, ¿no puedes ver?
Que estoy dando
Dándote, ¿puedes cavar?
Yo
¿Estoy viviendo?
Mujer loca, ¿no puedes ver?
Que estoy dando
Dándote, ¿puedes cavar?
Yo
Y apenas puedo respirar
Rodando por el camino
Rodando por el camino
Rodando por el camino
Rodando por el camino
Rodando por el camino
Escucha, escucha
Escucha la música
Escucha, escucha
Escucha la música, sí
Escucha, escucha
Escucha la música
Escucha, escucha
Escucha la música
¿Estoy viviendo?
Mujer loca, ¿no puedes ver?
Que estoy dando
Dándote, ¿puedes cavar?
Yo

The only time The Beach Boys jammed out a funky groove like this and it's one of my favorite tracks by anyone. It's unbelievably wonderful to see this period of their career getting the attention and recognition it deserves after all this time. Such a criminally underrated era with some truly incredible music that's been overlooked for 50 years. I envy the people who have the pleasure of discovering these songs for the first time.

Heard this for the first time on my soul/funk Spotify Playlist and I figured this song was a classic. Surprised to see that this song was basically overlooked, and REALLY surprised to see it was made by the Beach Boys of all people!

Always the thought the ending was just the lead into an instrumental section, cut down to fit into the supposedly right length format?
Yet another song which is the reason to love The Beach Boys.
Nice to have the comments section turned on for these songs as I think it helps having the debate on them.

This song is amazing. Lifelong friend introduced this to me about a week ago and I can't quit listening. Wish they did more in this style!
