I Know There's an Answer
The Beach Boys Lyrics
I know so many people who think they can do it alone
They isolate their heads and stay in their safety zones
Now what can you tell them
And what can you say that won't make them defensive
I know there's an answer
I know now but I have to find it by myself
They come on like they're peaceful
They trip through their day
And waste all their thoughts at night
Now how can I come on
And tell them the way that they live could be better
I know there's an answer
I know now but I have to find it by myself
Now how can I come on
And tell them the way that they live could be better
I know there's an answer
I know now but I have to find it by myself

The song was originally named "Hang On to Your Ego," but when the lyric of the chorus was changed after concerns that the LSD-related connotations of the phrase "Hang On to Your Ego" would be too controversial, the title of the song was also renamed. The subject of the revised song is the self-centeredness of people and how the singer tells them "...the way that they live could be better." The refrain of the song states "I know there's an answer/I know now but I have to find it by myself." Terry Sachen, who was the Beach Boys' road manager at the time, is given credit for co-writing the lyrics.

Pet Sounds is really deep.

@SMUS16475 I bought Smile, it was a huge disappointment. I sold it back not long after I bought it (the store carries new & used). I still have a CD of Smiley Smile I bought ages ago. 2 different albums. Van Dyke Parks is a little goofus.

@Marvin Thiessen Smiley Smile is the abridged version of the masterpiece that never was. I'm sure if SMiLE was finished and released in 1967 like it should have been , it would've been revolutionary in every way, shape or form and would've changed the way of music for decades to come.

@Vinyl 77 Check your first post to me, you're the one with the snarky attitude and salty language. If you want a civil discussion, clean up your potty-mouth, kid. No one died and left you Boss.

Totally it'll set a guy free

@Marvin Thiessen Rightfully underrated compared to other powerhouse BB albums like SMiLE, TODAY!, Pet Sounds, Surfs Up etc. And I know plenty about music, so dont come at me when you know absolutely nothing about me or the stuff you're talking about.

God the sound, its stunning
Wilson was some kind of genius
Laura Ess
Yes, he was!

I know that there's something I like a lot about this song but I don't know what it is exactly. Maybe it's the whole package.

There is a certain amount of genius naivety, both in the music and the words to this whole album, except for the remake of Sloop John B.
