Formed in Hawthorne, California in 1961, the original group comprised singer-musician-composer and bandleader Brian Wilson, his brothers Carl Wilson and Dennis Wilson, their cousin Mike Love, and friend Al Jardine. Wilson neighbor David Marks appeared on their first four albums and was a member from 1962 to 1963 as a temporary replacement for Jardine, who had left the group to pursue a career in dentistry.
On their first few studio albums, the group primarily played surf music, but this changed after 1964 as their songs became more sophisticated and autobiographical. The 1965 album Today! particularly represented this shift in sound. Bruce Johnston joined the group that same year. Session drummer Hal Blaine is quoted: "We all studied in conservatories; we were trained musicians. We thought it was a fluke at first, but then we realized Brian was writing these incredible songs. This was not just a young kid writing about high school and surfing."
Following their most esteemed work, Pet Sounds (1966), the band became symbols of psychedelic counterculture. The highly anticipated follow-up, Smile, was left unfinished, and Brian soon relinquished his creative hold on the group. A trilogy of lo-fi releases followed: Smiley Smile (1967), Wild Honey (1967), and Friends (1968). Brian would not be credited as a primary composer for any Beach Boys album until 1977's Love You, an album on the fringe of synth-pop, new wave, and punk.
In Brian's absence, the Beach Boys still managed to release music that was regarded favorably by fans and critics despite poor sales: Sunflower (1970) and Surf's Up (1971). South African musicians Blondie Chaplin and Ricky Fataar played and sang with the band on the next two albums: Carl & the Passions - So Tough (1972), and Holland (1973).
Many changes in both musical style and personnel have occurred in their sometimes-stormy career: Brian Wilson's mental illness and drug addiction; the deaths of Dennis Wilson in 1983 and Carl Wilson in 1998; and continuing legal battles among surviving members of the group. With the release of 1974's Endless Summer they became a more popular touring act, playing their greatest hits. They have recorded 36 Billboard Top 40 hits (including four number-one singles), have had over 100 million sales, and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988.

Isn't It Time
The Beach Boys Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
The music spinning in our head
Can't forget the feeling of
The magic of that summer love
Ooh I wanna take you there
Do you wanna turn back the pages
Memories in photographs
The world is changed
Isn't it time we danced the night away
How about doing it just like yesterday?
Every time I think of you
All of those things we used to do
Remember those nights we spent
Little did we know how the time would fly
Isn't it time, oh, oh
Isn't it time, oh, oh
The good times never have to end
Now's the time to let them happen again
We can have ourselves a blast
Good times that aren't only in the past
Isn't it time we danced the night away
How about doing it just like yesterday?
Every time I think of you
All of those things we used to do
Remember those nights we spent
Little did we know how the time would fly
Isn't it time, oh, oh
Isn't it time, oh, oh
And as the sun goes down we raise a glass to kindness
To all the good times we share
Isn't it time we get ready again
Isn't it time we go steady again?
Isn't it time we danced the night away
How about doing it just like yesterday?
Every time I think of you
And all of those things we used to do
Remember those nights we spent
Little did we know how the time would fly
Isn't it time, oh, oh
Isn't it time, oh, oh
Isn't it time we danced the night away
How about doing it just like yesterday?
Every time I think of you
And all of those things we used to do
Remember those nights we spent
Little did we know how the time would fly
Isn't it time, oh, oh
Isn't it time, oh, oh

I hope that Brian and the boys will make another album soon. This one is fantastic!

When Al comes in we can hear how well his voice has held up over the years. Very under-rated lead singer.
Mikey White
We've been fortunate to hear
Al with Matt many times, with Brian and with Dean Torrence, David Marks, Gary Griffin, Dave Longeman:the "The Legends" at Mayfest on Main in North Myrtle Beach, promoted by WaterDog Promotions, in which I was involved. Impressive also is Alan's staying close to Brian and prompting him as appropriate during the "Pet Sounds" and "Smile" tours.
Jorge Callico
You're damned right Dave! I've always called him ''Big Al'' Jardine. As he sings with such a professional touch. No doubt this is where his son Matt's professional chops came from.

Catchy song that stays in your head. I really like it. There's nothing wrong with being nostalgic for the days when we were young and could "dance the night away." I also really appreciate the fact that David Marks has "come home" after all these years. It kind of brings things full circle.
Marco Zucchi
I even saw them live in 2012 in Rome. Sorry they didn't hire Justyn Wilson too
Doctor Feinstone
@Marco Zucchi nope, they had Jeff Foskett instead

This is one of their most uplifting and bubbly songs they've ever made. This is basically an antidepressant, without paying as much.
Jason Harshman
In a perfect world this would be a chart topping hit. The label would be wise to make this the next single and promote the hell out of it because I think the BB really could crossover and gain even new and younger fans.

Literally feel like dancing all day everyday to this song, instantly puts me in a great mood. Viva los Beach Boys!
