Hope to accidentally run into you again
And all those people in those crowded spaces
With their sleepy empty faces
I felt like an alien
I saw you standing like a statue in the corner
And you were all alone, built like a Michelangelo
We hopped onto the train without a ticket
It's just my fascination
Don't need a destination (destination)
It's just my fascination
I never felt so beautiful (so beautiful)
We'll drink some whiskey hid behind the bar
Watch film noir inside the catacombs
Because there's a cataphile I know
We'll shave each other's hair
'Cause you got lice and I wanted mine to look like yours
All buzzed and shorn
And it's messed up
It's just my fascination
Don't need a destination (destination)
It's just my fascination
I never felt so beautiful (so beautiful)
Na na na na na, na na na na na
Na na na na na na
Na na na na na, na na na na na
Na na na na na na
I take your kiss just like a souvenir
The memories might end up hazy
But I'll try not to forget your face
And when you've grown up and get married
And you have a daughter
I hope you consider naming her after me
It's just my fascination
Don't need a destination (destination)
It's just my fascination
I never felt so beautiful (so beautiful)
(You're so, you're so)
Na na na na na, na na na na na
Na na na na na na
Na na na na na, na na na na na
Na na na na na na
The Beaches' song Fascination tells the story of two people who meet by chance at a crowded metro station. The singer takes the metro in hopes of running into the person again, and when they do meet, they hop on a train with no destination. The singer expresses their fascination with this person, not needing to go anywhere or do anything specific, just enjoying the moment with them. The lyrics also describe some unconventional activities they do together like hiding behind a bar to drink whiskey and shaving each other's hair. Despite the unusual situations they find themselves in, the singer still finds the other person beautiful and takes their kiss as a souvenir.
The song describes the feeling of being lost and looking for something or someone to hold onto. The crowded spaces and people's sleepy faces make the singer feel alienated, but being with this person makes them feel beautiful and alive. The lyrics also suggest a certain level of freedom and rebellion, as they hop on a train without a ticket and engage in unconventional activities.
