"You Never Give Me Your Money" is one of my favourite Beatles songs. Its melody is poignantly beautiful and it moves you emotionally. It's hard to separate this from "Golden Slumbers" and "Because" as being the best tracks from "Abbey Road". Though I concede that picking a favourite song from the Beatles catalogue is a near impossible task, because their quality was so outstandingly consistent.

The "Fab Four" are incomparable. They were unique. A one off. We will never experience anything like them again. They changed the world, not only in music, but the flow-on effects on other areas of society too.

The Kinks were pretty damn close, and the The Who too. The Who influenced a bunch of well known bands like Pink Floyd, Pearl Jam, Aerosmith, ACDC, Rush, Green Day, Oasis, and so many more. The Kinks inspired so many bands too. Inspired punk rock, garage rock, and hard rock. Hugely influential, just deeply under appreciated in their hay day. But these are all 60’s bands. It was also a traditional folk song I learnt to play at piano lessons many years ago. Unless there are two Cradle Songs then are confusing it with the one by Brahms?

I was at Sir Paul’s show at Fenway, too! Just thinking about his performance brings tears to my eyes. It was a magnificent show with beautiful tributes to John and George. I hope Paul has many more happy and productive years ahead of him. Who knows? Maybe we see him on another tour soon?! A 60-year anniversary of their arrival to the Untied States?? By the way, seeing Phil Collins on the drums is very touching given the physical condition he’s in now. I’ve always loved his music with and without Genesis. George Martin is a treasure.

And I was there too Cooper. I first saw him at the old Worcester Centrum for the "Flowers In The Dirt" tour In 1989. I had second row seats, center Isle. Amazing to see Linda on the keys with him. But this last show at Fenway was extra sad for the same reason you said. He's now 80 years old, and let's face it guys, he's really getting up there now. A tear came to my eye as I headed home over the Longfellow Bridge, across the Charles, into Kendall Sq. In Cambridge. I began to think of just how old he and Ringo are now. One of these days there will be no more Beatles in concerts, on talk shows or anywhere. How sad that will be. But like you said my friend, thank God we grew up in the era to see and experience them! And thank God we not only have the beautiful memories, but we have all the audio and video recordings of their genius. The Beatles story could never, ever be told on it's own. You'd need the audio and video because nobody would ever believe it!

One of the best pieces of rock music ever written. The Beatles were musicians nonpareil and they influenced almost every genre of music, from rock to jazz to pop to classical. Would have been so interesting to see what their collective collaborations would have brought in the 70s, especially with the added influence of George, who played a larger role in their music towards then end. And what a cast playing this masterpiece!

Yes they are an influential band and had influenced other pop and rock bands. But seriously mate, they never influenced jazz music and classical music those 2 are very different kind of music than what the beatles put out. You could say classical music influenced some of the beatles work because George Martin who is their producer was a classically trained pianist but the beatles did not influence jazz music or classical music. Saying they did is just isn't right.

And to think it was all just a hodgepodge of leftover bits of song from the let it be sessions. John Lennon hated this side of the album. Said it was just a collection of McCartney’s junk unfinished songs. I always thought it was epic

I LOVE hearing some of these truly great pieces being reborn with more advanced audio systems and instrument upgrades. I mean advancements in mics, drum heads, guitar strings, cables, ear monitors, mixers…you name it. The young players of ONCE are now the battle worn seasoned stadium musicians.

Paul has a game face. Humble isn't in his makeup, you just have to watch the Get Back series. It's great, but it shows Paul's ego very well. One of the best people on the planet? Doubtful. He's reputedly a cheapskate and a capricious one at that, ask some of his former Wings bandmates. Gracious? He's documented being an intoxicated arsehole.
To me, the question is: what does having the world hail you as a genius from the age of 22 or so, and at the same time, want a piece of you, do to you as a person?
Linda was often very unhappy in that marriage.
James, his son, has some serious emotional problems.
As a songwriter, or at least a melodicist, he is probably without parallel in the 20th century. As a human being, well, let's just say sometimes meeting your 'hero' can be a disappointment.
And as much as he'd like to put the breakup on John, it was Paul who nixed the plan for 4 songs each separately, 2 for Ringo, which was proposed about a week or so before John left.

This 'suite' is arguably the most inspired moment in popular music lyrics. Abbey Road was already a triumph but to merge these snippets culminating in the most perfect explanation of love "And in the end...." still shivers my vertebrae. To love is to be human, it's what we were 'designed' to do. The more we love, the wider its application, the more complete is our humanness.

How very fortunate that we were here to hear it, live amongst its brightness, and hear it repeated from now until the end of time. Not sure why exactly, but seeing George Martin there conducting makes me emotional and just warms my heart. He was an absolute genius and deserves all the credit for The Beatles’ perfection that he receives (notwithstanding John’s ridiculous comments during a period when he was pissy at everyone and everything not named Yoko). My respect for Paul, which otherwise could not be higher, was increased even more by the respect he always gave George Martin. (Plus, if you see any old pictures or film of the band in the studio, George Martin was always impeccably dressed; the best, most timeless fashion sense IMO.)

I feel fortunate to have lived when Paul McCartney was around. He can sing hard to rock and roll or soft to ballad. McCartney had his best work where he played every instrument on the "McCartney" album in 1971. "Let it be" and "Hey Jude" we're awesome!! Love ya Paul :o)

I was born in 1953 and was the perfect age to grow up with the Beatles. I remember their early albums (in mono, no less!) selling for .99 cents at the A&P grocery store. Every 6 months, like clockwork, they'd release a new album or single that, incredibly, was better than their previous songs. "She Loves You," I Feel Fine, "Paperback Writer," "Help!" "A Day In the Life," They just seemed to get better and better with every passing year. Our minds were constantly being blown by these four "mop tops," who came out of nowhere and changed popular music forever. We just took it for granted that it would never end, or at least, I did. And then, when I turned 16, it suddenly ended.
But, man, what a ride!!

@David Treciak So you were born the same year as my older brother. I was born in 1955 and we were on that same ride. Saw A Hard Day’s Night at one of 3 downtown movie theaters. Every Christmas was a no-brainer as to what to get for each other. Beatles album! What a ride indeed.

The first album, the black one, called "Meet the Beatles" here, I hitchhiked to the nearest town that had a record shop and bought it. I was 13. I'm now in my 70s, and I still have all my Beatles albums. That first album was not in stereo, but HiFi.

My generation were blessed by the Beatles, and I was blessed to have seen the Beatles in Sydney in 1964, and McCartney in Tokyo in the late 2010s. "A Day In The Life" is my fave Beatles song, BUT "Abbey Road" is my fave album. I think they should have saved these 3 for their last album, even tho sadly "Let It Be" was all recorded separately...not as a quartet. 61 years later & the Beatles are STILL #1 in ALL music history. They will never die.
