1. A American Hip Hop group.
2. A Japanese instrumental latin jazz-fusion group.
1. The Beatnuts are a hip hop group and production duo from Queens, New York City. Its current members are JuJu and Psycho Les. JuJu (born Jerry Tineo on December 4, 1968) is Dominican American from Corona and Psycho Les (born Lester Fernandez on April 10, 1972) is a Colombian American from Jackson Heights. The Beatnuts were originally a trio before Kool Fashion, now known as Al' Tariq, left the group to start a solo career. The Mighty V.I.C. (Groove Merchantz, Ghetto Pros) was also a member of The Beatnuts' production team for a while.
Early on in their career they produced whole albums for Posse members Common Sense and Chi-Ali. Their production is noted as some of the finest and most accomplished, if unheralded, in all of hip-hop, often intricately detailed (as in their finely honed work for Mos Def on two tracks from Black on Both Sides) but more regularly barnstorming, club-friendly, flourish-laden party music. Jennifer Lopez used their track "Watch Out Now" as the instrumental for her song "Jenny from the Block". The Beatnuts produced more songs for the artists they had previously collaborated with as well as Fat Joe, SuprΓͺme NTM and Da Youngsta's. At the same time, The Beatnuts made their name as remix specialists by remixing songs for MC Lyte, Da Lench Mob, Naughty by Nature, Jomanda and others.
The Beatnuts are noted for being unabashedly, bullishly ribald and in-your-face performers. Recent Beatnuts albums are characterised by more Latin influences.
Less known is they are considered part of the Native Tongues collective. The Beatnuts are the only Latino members of the Native Tongues collective. Although only peripheral members, they are routinely acknowledged by Q-Tip.

Yeah yeah yeah y'all ready for this?
Wha wha wha wha who is it?
Who up in this piece?
It's the wicked, with another winner hit
Stickin ho's like I'm supposed to be
Innocent
I got your head noddin and
There ain't no stoppin
This here, crystal clear
Pour it in your ear and let it sot up
Gimme the cash and just shut up
Tell me who brought those streets
From Queens that bud special
Chronic choke, pull it
It pops your blood vessel
The hispanic Shaft packs a gat, too
Produce and rap, too
Bless you like I hatchew
Basslines I'm throwin at you
Like pshhh, du-du-du dum
I bust my gat lovely, low down
Dirty and ugly
Shortly developped a taste for good bubbly
Don't bug me cause all the girls love me
And a lot of you cats is
Gettin wrapped in a rug, b
You all late, why you mad I got my own plate?
Think you niggas wouldn't catch it
For the long case? Ghetto pro, now you know
Get the name straight
Holdin it down since them cables
With the name plate
Okay here goes the blow, the bag, the mint
Grand time to represent flava so strong
Fills the room like Buddha scent, uhuh
I don't like choke
Gotta get paid so it's time to go for broke
Beatnuts hit the rhythm and I
Join right with 'em
Niggas can't see this flow so it's
Time to down sit 'em
I kick the flow for the
Niggas with the bald heads
Dreads, and 'fros, honey's, but no ho's
Oops! I didn't mean to call you ho, bitch
But when you try to clock
The pocket that's that bullshit!
So let's get down with one
Of New York's finest
Seed to the brain like Primatine
To clear the sinus
Grand Puba, Stud Doogie with the mad style
Beatnuts comin' with the rugged
It's on motherfucker, can't you see that?
No shame in the game
So Doogie where the weed at?
The Beatnutsβ song βAre You Readyβ is an intense, high-energy track dominated by boastful lyrics from group members Psycho Les, JuJu, and Grand Puba. The verses are filled with powerful images of violence and sexuality, delivered with a relentless flow over a driving beat. The opening lines set the tone for the rest of the song, as the singer asks who the mystery rapper on the mic could be before asserting his own power: βItβs the wicked, nigga with the super dick / Fuckinβ hoβs like Iβm supposed to be in a flick, uh!β
Throughout the song, The Beatnutsβ lyrics jump from one provocative image to another, with references to drugs, guns, and sexual conquests. The chorus, a simple repetition of the question βAre you ready?β, serves to emphasize the groupβs confidence and ability to take on any challenge. Though the lyrics of βAre You Readyβ are often controversial and explicit, the track is a powerful example of the raw energy and lyrical skill that made The Beatnuts a popular group in the 1990s and beyond.
