Bring Me Your Cup
The Beautiful Girls Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
A thing I never found that easy to do
The things that you do, don't need to be heard
You know your actions, baby, speak louder than words
(CHORUS)
I've got the bottle, bring me your cup
And when you're empty, I'll fill you up
We'll drink it down till the sun comes up
I'm heading home, like a steaming train
Foot to the floor, in the driving rain
My head is aching and my mouth is dry
I've got a thirst only you can satisfy
The lyrics of The Beautiful Girls' song Bring Me Your Cup convey the message of a person struggling to express their feelings towards someone they care for. The lyricist suggests that verbal communication isn't always effective in communicating emotions and the things that truly matter. In the first verse, the singer admits to finding it difficult to express his love towards the person he is addressing. He acknowledges that their actions are more powerful than their words, and that's what comforts him.
In the chorus of the song, the singer uses a popular metaphor to express his desire for a deeper relationship with his significant other. He compares the experience of drinking wine to the intimacy that he shares with the person. As he sings, "I've got the bottle, bring me your cup/ Pop the cork, and try a sup," he is essentially asking the person to share in this intimate experience with him. The lyrics express the comfort he feels in the emotional connection that they share and how it can only be satisfied by spending time with them in their presence.
The final verse finds the singer driving home, still consumed by the overwhelming feeling of thirst that only the person he cares for can quench. His description of his condition is visceral, with a pounding headache and a dry mouth, all of which can be satisfied only by spending more time connecting with the person he loves.
