Girl Lately Things Have Been Changing
The Beautiful Girls Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
And I promise you from now on,
I'm a try and be a good, good man.
I never used to know what I wanted.
Until I got it.
Then I didn't want it no more.
But it's been too long now,
With my heart breaking on this floor,
Dead.
Girl, lately so many things, they've been changing.
And it's you and me from now on.
Gonna save each other maybe.
I'll tell you the truth if you want it.
That's if I got it.
You see, I'm really not sure.
Guess it's been too long now,
To know the difference anymore,
And it's killing me.
Dead.
The lyrics to The Beautiful Girls' song "Girl Lately Things Have Been Changing" are introspective and seem to indicate a transformation taking place within the singer. The song reflects on past mistakes and regrets while also expressing a desire to change for the better. The opening line "Girl, lately so many things, they've been changing" serves as the central theme of the song, with the singer acknowledging that life is in a constant state of flux.
The singer promises to be a "good, good man" moving forward, indicating a resolve to improve himself and make better decisions. The lyrics suggest that in the past, he did not know what he wanted until he got it, and then quickly lost interest. However, these experiences have left him with a broken heart and a sense of regret. Now, he realizes that he needs to make a change and is willing to do the work to be a better person.
The second verse indicates a shift towards building a meaningful partnership. The "you and me from now on" line emphasizes the importance of the relationship, and the singer hopes that they can support and save each other going forward. However, he acknowledges that he may not always know the right thing to say or do, but he promises to be honest and try his best. The line "Guess it's been too long now, to know the difference anymore, and it's killing me. Dead" further highlights the internal turmoil and struggle that the singer is grappling with.
Overall, the song captures the emotions and experiences of a person going through a significant period of change and growth. It is a poignant reflection on taking responsibility for one's mistakes and striving to be a better version of oneself.
