At War With the Sun
The Big Pink Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
At war with the sun
A crown of stars that we all wish upon
And you whisper tome
Are we out of time?
And if it's so
Then don't let go
Your tear drops run
All ragged bloom we're all let loose on
Hands disappear
Pull you close
Shoot out the lights for all your pleasures
Young hearts
Know nothing but say it all
Celebrate no control
But is it enough to realise your love
And miss us when we're gone
Live for the words that we sung
And don't let go
No one hears as no one cares
Until we all fall over the edge
Surrender all thoughts
The odd ones out
And I said
We'd meet tonight
Into the dark
And out of this world
Blow a kiss
And burn it down
Together we'll live then turn to dust
Through the smoke
And into the sun
The lyrics of "At War With the Sun" by The Big Pink speak to a struggle against the natural passage of time and the fleeting nature of life. The opening lines, "Up for too long, at war with the sun," suggest the singer has been awake and battling the dawn for too long. The following lines, "A crown of stars that we all wish upon, and you whisper to me, are we out of time?" suggest a sense of longing and a fear of the inevitability of mortality. The lyrics continue with references to the transience of life, such as "hands disappear," and the need to live for the moment and hold onto love, as expressed in the lines "live for the words that we've sung and don't let go." The song ends with the notion of leaving behind a legacy, as expressed in the lines "together we'll live then turn to dust, through the smoke and into the sun."
Overall, "At War With the Sun" can be interpreted as a meditation on the human condition and our struggle against the ravages of time. The lyrics speak to the importance of living in the moment, holding onto love, and leaving a lasting impact on the world.
