Dominos
The Big Pink Lyrics
Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴ Line by Line Meaning ↴
These girls fall like dominos, dominos
These girls fall like dominos
These girls fall like dominos, dominos
As soon as I love her it's been too long
Talks of future with you makes me I'll
Swallow my sugar kiss, and eat it alone
These girls fall like dominos, dominos
These girls fall like dominos, dominos
These girls fall like dominos, dominos, dominos
Three words we shared said you weren't only all
Stuck with forever to the point of tears
Swimming with the villa where we slowly drown
Ending at never haunting melody
As soon as I love her it's been too long.
And I really love breaking your heart
These silver apples will shine on I was wrong
The hottest love has the coldest end
These girls fall like dominos, dominos
These girls fall like dominos, dominos
These girls fall like dominos, dominos
These girls fall like dominos, dominos, dominos
These girls fall like dominos, dominos
These girls fall like dominos, dominos
These girls fall like dominos, dominos
These girls fall like dominos, dominos, dominoes
Uh uh-uh
The Big Pink's song, Dominos, appears to be a reflection on the fleeting nature of love and relationships. The opening line of the chorus, "These girls fall like dominos," describes how quickly the women in the singer's life seem to fall for him before falling apart just as quickly. He reflects on the short lifespan of his relationships, saying "As soon as I love her it's been too long," suggesting that the thrill of the chase and the early stages of love are all he is interested in.
The verses delve deeper into the themes of the song, with the singer expressing a sense of cynicism and disappointment towards love. He talks about the idea of a future with someone making him feel ill and swallowing his "sugar kiss" alone. The image of hearts colliding creates an impression of chaos and destruction, and he goes on to say that dreams of love are smashed as a result.
There's an air of regret in the song, with the singer acknowledging he's made mistakes and the "hottest love has the coldest end." Despite the negative emotions, the song remains catchy and almost playful, reflecting the idea that love can be a game with winners and losers.
