“The Black Cat Bone”, TBCB’s NEW ALBUM-KOMA
TBCB’s return to the Colombian national rock scene began in November 2009 with the recording sessions for their second album with German Villacorta as producer alongside Juan David Bernal. The four musicians of TBCB Mauricio Leguízamo, Juan David Bernal, Luis Fernando Garcia and Andres Garzón began the final phase of a sabbatical year in which the band found its musical essence. These were months of intense creativity, reflection and a rest from the great moment where, between 2005 and 2008, the band was on top of the national rock scene.
This pause, which meant a redirection in the band’s musical concept, found a quick echo in the genius of Germán Villacorta, Peruvian producer and engineer based in Los Angeles, whose credits range from Ozzy Osbourne, Stone Temple Pilots and Rolling Stones among others, in diverse roles as recording and mixing engineer. Villacorta understood the meaning of what TBCB wanted resulting in one of the best records in the history of Colombian rock. In February 2010, the single “Let it die” opened way to KOMA, the band’s second studio album.

You got me strummin' this song
You got me down on my knees now honey
You know I didn't mean wrong
But when I feel this broken heart
I sing this sad, sad song
You didn't want to hear a word.
And when I said it'd be all right now honey
You thought at once it'd be absurd
But when I feel this broken heart,
I sing this sad, sad song
But when I feel this broken heart,
I sing this sad, sad...
I feel this sad, sad, I feel this sad, sad...
I sing this sad, sad song, feel the sad...
I feel this sad, sad, I sing this sad, sad
I feel this sad, sad song.
You got me singing the Blues now baby
You got me feelin' so low
The wound you made keeps getting' deeper honey
The pain is leaving so slow
But when I feel this broken heart,
I sing this sad, sad, I feel this sad,
Sad song, sing this sad, sad. (x4)
The Black Cat Bone's "Sad Song" is a classic blues tune that embodies the pain and heartache of a relationship gone wrong. The lyrics describe a brokenhearted narrator who is strumming and singing a sad song because of the emotional distress caused by a failed relationship. Despite their best efforts to express their love, the other party did not reciprocate or care, leading to feelings of pain and despair. The singer recounts how they are down on their knees, and the wound caused by the relationship keeps getting deeper, leaving a profound and lasting impact.
The repetitive lines and cadences underscore the emotions of the singer and their pain. The use of repetition is a literary device that helps to emphasize the importance of particular ideas or sentiments. By repeating the phrase, “I feel this sad, sad,” the singer underscores their emotional state and their attachment to the sadness that they are experiencing. It is a poignant reminder that despite the pain, they continue to hold onto it, perhaps as a way of expressing their love or to remind themselves of what they once had. The subtle shifts in feeling, from anger and frustration to despondency, are expressed through the mournful melodies of the blues.
