Brown Eyed Girl
The Black Sorrows Lyrics

Jump to: Overall Meaning ↴  Line by Line Meaning ↴

Hey where did we go
Days when the rains came
Down in the hollow
Playin' a new game
Laughing and a running hey, hey
Skipping and a jumping
In the misty morning fog with
Our hearts a thumpin' and you
My brown eyed girl

You my brown eyed girl
Whatever happened
To Tuesday and so slow
Going down the old mine
With a transistor radio
Standing in the sunlight laughing
Hiding behind a rainbow's wall
Slipping and sliding

All along the water fall, with you
My brown eyed girl
You my brown eyed girl
Do you remember when we used to sing
Sha la la la la la la la la la la te da
So hard to find my way
Now that I'm all on my own
I saw you just the other day
My how you have grown

Cast my memory back there, Lord
Sometime I'm overcome thinking 'bout
Making love in the green grass
Behind the stadium with you
My brown eyed girl
You my brown eyed girl

Do you remember when we used to sing
Sha la la la la la la la la la la te da

Overall Meaning

The song "Brown Eyed Girl" by The Black Sorrows is a classic tune about reminiscing old times with a past lover. The song starts off with the singer wondering about "where did we go" and reminiscing about old days when it rained and played new games. He recalls the misty mornings and jumping with his brown-eyed girl. He sings about finding it hard to find his way now that he is all alone and that he recently saw his past lover, who has grown. The song ends with a memory of making love in the green grass behind the stadium.

The song's lyrics convey a sense of nostalgia and longing for the blissful past. The singer misses the carefree times playing the new game with his brown-eyed girl and enjoying the simple pleasures of life. The mention of the transistor radio and hiding behind a rainbow's wall can be read as symbols of the simplicity they enjoyed back then. However, as the song progresses, the singer becomes more emotional, and the memories of his past lover become more intense. The nostalgic and emotional lyrics mixed with the upbeat music make this song a classic ode to past love.

Love Van Morrison. Hitchiked with my son in 70 to the Fillmore to see him Brown Eyed Girl is my Favorite. But listening to Joe Camilleri with the Black Sorrows was a pleasant surprise. It is so evident in this video that they are having a great time singing and playing this song. Their later videos are pretty cool too. Especially Harley and Rose.. Thanks for posting this..

They so look like a bunch of Northies (Northern suburbs of Melbourne boys) from the 80s having a ball! What brilliant artists. A different take on the Van Morrison song. Love it.

Samuel Borg
