In 1984, they released their debut album, 'Limping For A Generation', which took on issues such as the Cold War and the AIDS epidemic, unusually for a pop band. Their first hit was in 1986 with "Digging Your Scene" from their second album, 'Animal Magic'. The single peaked at number 14 in the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart listing and number 7 on the Hot Dance Music/Club Play chart. To the band's delight, the parent album also hit number 35 on the Billboard 200,
In January 1987, 'She Was Only A Grocer's Daughter' was released. The album's biggest hit, "It Doesn’t Have to Be This Way", reached the top 10 in the U.K., although it never charted in the U.S. The band called it quits in late 1990 as the musical scene shifted away from them. Lead singer Dr. Robert then went solo. The band reformed in 2007 and has sporadically toured.
Forbidden Fruit
The Blow Monkeys Lyrics

As wonderful as you
It's strange but it's true
Forbidden fruit you are to me
Pluck you from your tree
Can't you see my situation?
I can't answer questions
Do you know what I saw today?
A man blow himself away over you
But I get around
Some people like to call that a man
But I'm so ashamed
I've got to get together
Got to make an effort to change
I have never seen a girl
As beautiful as you
Well, that's not exactly true
Only yesterday
Do you know what I say that day?
A boy blow himself away over you
But I get around
Some people like to call that a man
But I'm so ashamed
And I've got to get together
Got to make an effort to change
Do you know what I saw today?
A man blow himself away over you
The lyrics in The Blow Monkeys' song Forbidden Fruit explore the singer's infatuation with a person who they consider to be unique and desirable - a "freak" who is "wonderful" and "beautiful." However, this person is also presented as unattainable or "forbidden," perhaps because of social or personal barriers that prevent the singer from pursuing a relationship with them.
Throughout the song, the singer expresses a sense of shame and frustration, as if their attraction to this person is somehow inappropriate or morally suspect. This theme is reinforced by the repeated image of someone "blowing themselves away" over the object of the singer's desire, suggesting a sense of danger or destructive potential that surrounds this person.
Overall, the lyrics to Forbidden Fruit communicate a complex mix of desire, attraction, shame, and anxiety, exploring the dynamic between forbidden desires and social norms or expectations that place limits on our ability to explore them.

I say this exact thing every day. There’s so much undiscovered music from the 70’s and 80’s, why even bother listening to new music?

One would think that Sirius XM could come up with a channel that revisited a lot of these little lost pop gems, but all we get is First Wave and they have about a 100 songs, from which they seldom if ever stray. So its just as you were saying.....but, this is a killer song.
