Bidin' My Time
The Blue Jeans Lyrics

Cause that's the kinda guy I'm
While other folks grow dizzy
I keep busy
Bidin' my time.
Next year, next year,
Somethin's bound to happen,
I'll just keep on nappin'
And bidin' my time
Cause that's the kinda guy I'm.
There's no regrettin'
When I'm settin'
Bidin' my time.
The Blue Jeans's song Bidin' My Time is a fun and lighthearted tune that represents the idea of taking life at your own pace. The lyrics express a carefree attitude that the singer adopts in their day-to-day life. They have a feeling that in the upcoming year, something is bound to happen, but until then, they are content with "keepin' busy" by simply "bidin' their time." It's a relatable feeling that many people experience when they are waiting for things in life to happen.
The lyrics also suggest that the singer is not a "dizzy" person, meaning they don't get wrapped up in the craziness of life and instead live at a more relaxed pace. Their decision to "keep on nappin'" instead of getting worked up over things shows their laidback perspective on life. They don't experience regret because they take life as it comes, enjoying each moment without worrying about what's to come.
The song speaks to the idea of carving out your own path in life and not feeling pressured to keep up with the pace of others. The singer is comfortable taking their time and waiting for things to happen at their own pace. It's a message that can bring comfort to those who may feel like they're falling behind, reminding them that it's okay to wait for the right timing.

2:16 I like this part, right after the singing, the band picks up the jazzy tempo for 2 seconds, then they settle back in their rocking chairs to listen to the rest of the song. :)

The setting of Girl Crazy may have been fantastically different from the world in which the Gershwin brothers, by then highly celebrated, moved ... but we must remember that such a project, one of many on which their lasting fame was built, was an assignment. Whether then or now, it may be fun or even therapeutic to write navel-gazing songs, but in those days, Broadway shows represented a pinnacle, to which piano-pounder and word stringers feverishly aspired. You built your material (albeit sometimes loosely) around a story line -- not the other way around. The 1930 musical was set at an Arizona ranch, probably a rather rustic environment in real life of the times. We can hardly expect for such setting a slew of numbers about champagne and debutantes and Wimbledon. The show in fact includes one of my favourite Gershwin tunes (and songs in general), "Embraceable You" -- because love is everywhere and love sells in shows. "Bidin' My Time" -- in my estimation, a real charmer, which includes some ranch-appropriate colloquialisms and attractive harmonic turns-- fit the show. Ya cotton t' that thar notion? This treatment is among the cutest I've heard.

Some fellers love to tiptoe through the tulips
Some fellers go on singin' in the rain
Some fellers keep on paintin' skies with sunshine
Some fellers must go swingin' down the lane

Though this was recorded in late 1930, and (as far as I can tell) Victor usually released records after 1 or 1 & 1/2 months, it appears this was released around March 20th-22nd, 1931. Released as in the distributors & retailers had a stock readily available for selling.

Couldn´t imagine that George and Ira Gershwin could compose such a silly and childish song! But of course they had a very large and wide repertoire.

It is, of course a silly song but it’s also clever to include four contemporary song titles in the verse. It seems to be a satire, not uncommon then, of rustic life and music which this version captures perfectly with ocarina and harmonica. After all Beethoven was doing the same sort of thing 120 years earlier.
