The band then began to take on a life beyond the confines of the television screen, releasing an album, Briefcase Full of Blues, in 1978, and then having a Hollywood film, The Blues Brothers, created around its characters in 1980.
After the death of Belushi in 1982, the Blues Brothers have continued to perform with a rotation of guest singers and other band members. Aykroyd reunited the original band in 1988 for a world tour and again in 1998 for a sequel to the film, Blues Brothers 2000. Aykroyd and the band, occasionally joined by Belushi's brother Jim, make regular appearances at musical festivals worldwide.

I started drinking and got real tight
I blew each and all my friends
I felt so good I had to blow it again
I said Hey bartender
Hey man, looka here
A draw one, draw two, draw three, four glasses of beer
Well I saw a chick sitting on the end
I said Baby can't we be friends
You're looking sweet as you can be
Well come on down and drink with me
I said Hey bartender
Hey man looka here
Draw one, draw two, draw three, four glasses of beer
Elwood!
Well we was having so much fun
I didn't know it was half past one
I turned around to have on more
I looked at the clock and it was half past four
Hey bartender
Hey man look a here
A draw one, draw two, draw three, four glasses of beer
Well jukebox girl is everything
All the cats began to sing
I heard somebody called and said
Last round for alcohol
I said Hey bartender
Hey bartender
Hey bartender
Hey bartender
Draw one, two, three, four glasses of beer
The Blues Brothers’s song “Hey Bartender” is a classic rock n’ roll tune that is all about having a wild night of drinking with your friends. The song starts out with the singer telling the story of how they went out “balling” one night and got really drunk to the point where they “blew each and all” of their friends. The singer then calls out to the bartender to give him four glasses of beer as he sees a woman sitting at the end of the bar that he wants to invite over to drink with him. The chorus repeats this request for a few rounds until the clock strikes half past four and the bar is about to close.
The song is an ode to the fun and carefree nature of going out with friends and getting drunk. It’s a celebration of life and living in the moment. There’s no deeper meaning or hidden agenda behind the lyrics - it’s just good times and good vibes.
Overall, "Hey Bartender" is a fun and lighthearted song that captures the joy of living in the moment and having a good time with friends. It’s a timeless classic that continues to be a staple at bars and parties all around the world.
